here is a video on you tube on using one or more electronic scales to find - or check against plans - the center of gravity of a model airplane:

If your DC3 comes in at 55lbs you had better lower it carefully on the scales to avoid damage to the scales.

put the gear up, then weigh the aircraft

or use a sling for CG

I have a couple of the thin Starfrit scales, one for over ten years, have to buy a battery at the dollar store every three years or so...

Easy to store

(excellent for cooking too, they can measure volume as well)

Wait until they go on sale though!

I have two of these on the way:

Good for about 15lbs each, along with a 5lb scale I already have, should be good for 35lbs max.

First I think a BIG 'THANKS' is in order. Or is it? I saw and read this post the other night. Thought I would reply and say that they were a good deal, then got pulled away before I had a chance to post. Fast forward a few hours, and I HAD to weigh something on my scale that I bought from there a couple years ago. I go to use it and it was locked in the 'kg' mode. It would not change units, or zero itself out. Replaced the battery and the same stuff happening. So I threw and banged it around a bit and still no luck. It honestly worked fine Friday night. So thanks again for posting this as I had a chance to spend more money today.....

Wonder how the weight scale method works with a rearward retracting nose gear setup as the COf G is usually done with gear up. When the gear are dropped , the cg moves foreword slightly ,which is fine.
