Just can't trust those hangers when they're rash.

Re: Hanger Rash?!

My very first time taking my brand new trainer to the club, I closed the door of my truck on the elevator, or rudder. A small piece of packing tape got me flying, but that was heart breaking.

I'm sure there are stories a lot worse than ours.

Take care, Daren

Hanger Rash?!

Hanger Rash!

Is usually a hole in the wing or other damage to an Airplane that we did in our workshop – always annoying and usually embarrassing.

Today – I am confessing to a slightly different type of Hanger Rash – but no less embarrassing…

I store my 20 – 60 sized AC on a Pegboard made of 1/2” Dowling covered in water pipe insulation and I have a rack in the car made of the same stuff.

My Fun 1 has an OS 40 max engine with an air-bleed carburetor…

I was at the field trying to start up the Fun 1 and it would NOT run at an idle. Top end was fine but anything below 5K RPM and the engine died. OK; I put the plane away and flew the backup.

At the shop I EVENTUALLY discovered that the AIR- BLEED vent was fully closed off! Open it up and tune – the problem disappeared!

The only answer that I have for this is my Storage and Transport method – the engine usually rests on the foam covered dowels, with time and vibration the Idle adjust slowly got bumped and turned in… no air at idle, no work.

Live and learn.
