Magnumb, Id like to get together with you and discuss this. I too have been looking at getting my HAM license just to be pro active and give me more flexibility.
Let me know if you are willing to meet at Tims sometime and lets have a chit chat.

Hey,

I think lawmate is a great option, but only some of the equipment they make is suitable in canada/us for some reason. I forget what frequency range it is but every channel they have on them falls outside any sort of HAM frequency....it's one thing to not have a HAM its something else to use occupied frequencies, which I am sure can cause reception issues etc.

The LawMate setup from ReadyMade RC is a good bet. The price is right. I would consider the eagle tree diversity system and do a Patch antenna with reciever and a second reciever with a rubber duck. You will be good close in and far out.

But that's not what you asked....sorry.

Ok back on topic, I think lawmate is really good. They have a great reputation and great quality. Probably some of the best equipment you can buy.

Look for FPV Starter Package: 1.2-1.3GHz Lawmate on ReadyMade RC under FPV starter packages. These are a great way to build out a system. Great for long range. 1000mw vTx...hell ya! But they will run hot if you don't keep them moving....not a problem if your using it, a bit of an issue if you are bench testing it. Larger recievers are generally heavier. This can be mitigated with some recievers where you can take off a heatsink or cover. This is a good option if plane mounted in good airflow. Again, don't run it static when doing this.

From here you might add a fancy antenna like a BiQuad or a Yagi depending on the kind of antenna on the vTx.

The only problem with that setup is that it runs on my frequency In fact with your system, you're spanning so many frequencies no one will be able to fly with you HAHAHA 433, 900, 1.2 Your a frequency HOG

hehehehe All 1.3 systems are actually 1280...not sure why they call them 1.3 other then a rounding error.

hope that helps.

i have a plan. i would like to get a 1.2GHz VTX and reciever - but there are alot of crappy brands out there . around 800mw maybe more...
in your opinion what model/brand is the best for long range say 10km and a cam to match . i am getting the fatshark base goggles.
