Re: Where to get a 5 inch 10-32 screw?

Thanks for all the help guys,
In the owners manual that came with the engine, it wasn't specified, but I found a more thorough manual online later last night, specifies 5mm.
Dennis:
It requires a screw which threads into.the end of the crankshaft, and I used the cap screws that came with it to find a match at the hardware store...that's how I came up with the 10-32.
But i found a place today thru my brother in law, so I'll get him to order them along with his usual order and even save the shipping! The link is below if anyone is interested,
Brad: I can't get on the Fastenal site right now but will keep trying, thx.

Again, thx to all

Someone's got to sell them in Canada but I haven't found them.
Any ideas
Thx

First who makes the spinner/prop nut combination? The nut has to match the crankshaft so for your engine that will be metric. However the bolt and thread may be standard depending on where it was made. Off shore most likely metric. Tru Turn or Dave Brown good chance it's standard. Contact the manufacturer if possible to be certain. You can also take the prop nut to the hardware store and try known thread size bolts from the bins to see what it is.

DVO,
According to the Fastenal website, M5x130 socket caps are sold individually

I believe even DA has a 5mm hole for the spinner. All the rest of their bolts are also 5mm.
Good grief I cannot believe this. Never mix metric and standard up. Though they seem close the pitch will not match and contact between the two components is compromised. Only a hack would deliberatly mix the two. At best even matched components have about 80% contact miss matched ones much less. This makes for a situation where stripped bolts or internal threads are a very real possibility. Also snapped bolts and a missing spinner can happen. The head sizes are significantly different with the standard being slightly smaller. This can result in the countersunk hole in the spinner getting screwed up. The best bolt to use is a stainless steel one of the right thread size and length. Remember the thread depth bolt to anchor should be 1 1/2 times the diameter of the bolt as a minimum to match the strength of the bolt itself.

Re: Where to get a 5 inch 10-32 screw?

I had a friend in the states pick them up for me. I bought two of them. They were about 5 bucks each, not cheap by any means. Ft Mac is not what it was. It has tripled in size since you were here. It is now roughly 100,000 people. Lot's of construction. There was an overpass built a long time ago at the base of the hill by the old firehall. Now a 6 lane bridge is being built over the river with giant overpasses at the bottom of Thickwood and Confederation.

Super08:
Fastenal? there's one nearby, how many did you have to buy? I've tried them before but they only sold large quantities.
What did they cost if you don't mind my asking?
BTW, how's Ft Mac. I lived there in '82-'83, many good memories of that town, lots of them cold.

That is correct. I just got some M5 x 130mm bolts from Fastenall which is almost exactly 5".

10/32 and a 5mm bolt have a diameter and threads that are very very close.

To hold a spinner on the the 10/32 will work fine in a 5mm hole. Don't use 10/32 on exhaust, cylinder, prop, etc etc etc.

I believe even DA has a 5mm hole for the spinner. All the rest of their bolts are also 5mm.
