Re: Thunder Tiger not making good power. I ran and flew the 46 again today finally with a 10x6 prop. I was getting a bit over 12 000 rpm but that was well rich of peak as the needle is definitely vibrating rich without the clip. I could hold it at peak buts as soon as I let go it moves quarter turn rich and as I fly it gets richer and richer till it dies. Cougar429 if you have a clip it definitely would be appreciated. 12 000 rpm seems low but it definitely can be leaned higher than that. |

A quarter turn rich from peek is too rich, one click is better. 10X7 APC on an ultra sport will give plenty of performance. |

Re: Thunder Tiger not making good power. 11x7 is way to much prop. Ideal prop would be an 11x6 for your ultra sport 10x7 will be faster but less vertical performance. |

Re: Thunder Tiger not making good power. I just looked at the specs for my old OS 46 SF and it shows props from 10.5x6 all the way up to 12x6 so perhaps 11x7 is not that big after all. Though TT does say 10x7. |

Re: Thunder Tiger not making good power. I didn't really note the needle position after landing but I don't think it moved. I guess it's because I'm not making full power but it's not a particularly loud engine. I've heard Honda Civics that were louder. Here are the pics Cougar. In the one you can see the remaining part of the clip still on the needle and in the second I've taken it off and rested it on the needle. It's a straight needle, not angled. I've generally used Master Airscrew props. Interesting that some say a 11x7 is fine and others say it's too much prop. I'm inclined to think the former but I'm no expert. TT says 10x7. I can't see any scoring in the exhaust port. Anyway, when I get the plane ready to go again I'm going to try a 10x7. I think the engine is tired but I've definitely felt engines with less compression. Also, other than the lack of power it's been very reliable. No dead sticks. I think I'm going to order a new tachometer. Thanks. |

Re: Thunder Tiger not making good power. 11x6 / 11x7 will work great, I do not think the prop is the problem. a .46 with a 10x6 sounds like a Honda civic with a loud exhaust, lots of noise but not going anywhere fast lol. without the clip on the needle it may be possible the needle is vibrating out ritchening it as you fly? Had it happen on a Magnum .46 pro was a pain! |

Re: Thunder Tiger not making good power. Many years ago when APC came onto the market ; I thought that all their hype about how good they were ;was just that. Hype to sell ! But after trying them , I switched . Used to use either wood or MA to that point. There used to be a good prop that came out of Australia but don't remember what the name was. May have been Taipan, but very limited sizes. For my bigger engines 25cc and up There was not much choice back then so used MA but had one shed one end of the prop while in flight. After that I threw them out after one flying season, or used wood. |
