Re: Saito 125 max engine temperature ???

Some of the big four strokes will run quite well in a lean condition. To set the engine: peak the engine at full throttle. Lean it out until the RPM's drop off several hundred RPM's then richen it until it peaks and drops off a couple of hundred RPM's at full throttle, that is your baseline for full throttle. A small leak in the intake will not effect this, where it will show is when you go to a low idle or closed for shut off and it will not shut off. That is when you have an air leak. If you can adjust the idle mixture with the throttle closed and it will still run you definitely have an air leak. When the weather changes in the fall and spring you might have to adjust both needles 1/8 Th. of a turn.

Re: Saito 125 max engine temperature ???

I have been flying my Saito 125 without any problems for more than 6 months but yesterday ... It seems like the problem could be engine temperature related. ... Is it possible the o-ring at the top of the intake tube is leaking?

Re: Saito 125 max engine temperature ???

I email horizon hobby and ask them and they said 200 deg is max on the saito 125 So your 170 t0 190 deg sounds right and I am going to set my max temp at 200
Thanks for the help

Re: Saito 125 max engine temperature ???

To use the Spektrum temp sensor on my four strokers I cut a mini deans connector down to single pole and soldered it into one leed so as to be-able to wrap the sensor around the head in the upper most full cooling fin recess without disassembling the rockers. My Saito 180 in a Funtana 100X fully cowled with only the rocker covers exposed on a hot (28 / 32 C is hot here) I usually see 170 / 190 on my DX8 min max screen after flight.

Re: Saito 125 max engine temperature ???

I have one of those laser heat gages from CTC. I rarely get temperatures above 250 deg. F on either two or four cycle nitro engines. The temp can vary as much as 85 deg. on the same engine at the same throttle setting. I usually point the laser at the glow plug. This gives me a good reference. Some four cycle gas engines can run as high as 450 deg. F If I get a reading of above 230 deg. F at the plug on a nitro engine then I richen it up and give it more run in time. I have recorded W.O.T. temps from 125 to 220 deg. F on 2S engines and they all run just as sweet as pie. So you see it depends on where the probe is attached and the kind and make of the engine.

Re: Saito 125 max engine temperature ???

Run your engine installed, cowl on, on the ground until warm than at max throttle as you would if adjusting. Note max at that time and set warning. It will run cooler in the air and if it gets to max ground temp be warned.
