EMS out of China/Taiwan works great.
nobody I know has gotten any follow up charges when using Purolator from the US Warehouse. And the shipping fees are crazy low too. So there you go.

I have had 7 order from HKUSA since January, and no extra charges incurred. Usually arrives in 2-3 days, which is 1-to-10 weeks faster than from Great Hobbies.

PS. I have to wonder what kind of world we are in when a company can have a person drop a package on the concrete at my door and run away(literally) and possibly send me a bill 4 weeks later that I have to pay. Something is wrong with that picture. If they don't collect at the door it should be their problem.
No additional charges received. Two further orders processed and received.

In the real world that is not the case or should it be. The seller is responsible for getting your purchase to your door and if he deems it necessary to have the parcel insured then that's his cost for doing business. If there is a claim through loss or damage the seller not the buyer will be submitting the claim. Most will know if you yourself are sending a parcel you are asked if you want insurance or additional if the service already has coverage.
And here's the clincher. Priority, Xpresspost and Expedited services all include $100 free coverage.
Call it something else GH, perhaps a handling fee?
I believe there is a thread all about the recent troubles over the last 6 months or so with great hobbies.

Might want to post this there as this is a thread on Hobbyking, not Great Hobbies.

The HK site eventually showed a new tracking number - the new # was still not linked to a tracking site. At this point, the shipping date was 10 days after the order date!

Even then, there was no tracking info beyond Fiji post until the day it arrived at my door. When I returned to look at the Canada post site, the tracking info showed delivery confirmation with a 3 week gap in between entries.

Though shipping fees are not covered by Paypal, I filed a dispute. Though HK was not obligated to do so, they reimbursed me the EMS shipping fees.

Many vendors based in China know this detail all too well. You want your money back - sure - just ship EVERYTHING back to us registered mail. That might often cost more than your order itself. I've not had Paypal accept any resolution short of returning the order in its entirety in order to get a refund.

The strangest of things was that I had put in an order a day earlier using international registered airmail and that order arrived a week before the EMS order!

+1 on courrier fees. I surmise that there's a ~$100 threshold as to packages that get processed for taxes & fees (from past experience). I've had both UPS and FedEx send invoices weeks after delivery. UPS uses this Customs Clearance fee schedule when the shipper uses their 'standard' shipping rate. Their "Worldwide Express ..." service includes the fee (though not the GST). FedEx "brokerage options" have been somewhat less. FedEx adds a charge for 'fronting' the GST on your packages.
Do yourself a favor and never order from USA warehouse. use regular post from HK warehouse whenever possible thats the cheapest way.

If so, I will be ordering big orders from there now as I've been waiting for one month now on a big EMS Express shipment from Int warehouse. Its going through Fiji post, seems like the worst one ever.
cheers!

I certainly avoid using courier service for shipments from the U.S. to Canada because of what I consider excessive brokerage fees, most of which you seem to only get billed for a week or so after delivery when you think "well, that wasn't so bad" .... and use only U.S. Postal Service.

btw, while I have no personal experience with EMS Express, I thought it was one of the more reliable and quick courier service from the China and area. I used the cheapest mail service - international registered airmail at $17.95 offered by Hobbyking at the time - for a just under 1 kg package - no lipo batteries - and received it in just under a month- with no further duties, taxes or fees to pay at my end.

good luck
