Re: Multi Rotor As a Gift For The Holidays?

I notice that you mention the Blade QX 180 on your site - I own one, and although it's a decent quad, the camera on it is pure garbage. It's very picky about SD cards, very difficult to find one that it'll work with, and you may find that some retailers don't provide an SD card with it. I still enjoy my QX 180 but I don't use the camera any more. Also the landing gear is very fragile, after breaking two sets I have abandoned that, too. If you don't have the camera on board, you don't need the landing gear.

I would recommend the NANO QX over the QX 180. Just my 2 cents

Would be important to make sure that they are IC approved to make sure they meet Industry Canada 's standards because with the proliferation of systems out there and with new regs in the future that may be an issue and a lot could be grounded..... Just my nickel.

Ya its something to consider for sure. Your best bet is starting him with a cheap toy FPV drone like the Hubsan X4 FPV.

Much cheaper option to allow your nephew to learn the basics of flight, as well as FPV, but relatively inexpensive incase it needs to be replaced by next year lol. Id recommend getting him a few extra props and batteries as well!

Visit my blog (www.top10droneguide.com) and under toy drones i should have a link to a good deal on one!

I hear you with people wanting to get into it but not knowing where to start. I've just recently opened FPVFlyboy.com in Ottawa, Ontario Canada and as I build my inventory I also want to give a clear direction for those just getting started. I find that at the moment it's a bit of the wild west if anyone wants to get into building their own rig. I think that resources such as what you've put out there is exactly what people need as well as clearer directions in the stores they're buying them from, which is what I'm looking to do in the near future.

I think the EMax Nighhawk is a good entry on that list since it's not too expensive and has really tough arms and body with V2. I've been flying one for months and crash it endlessly with no breaks. I also like that it's pretty roomy so the components are easy to work with since they aren't too cramped.

Thanks for posting and taking the time to help out in this community.
Hey! Thanks for taking the time and offering me some feedback, i really do appreciate it. As for your other comments, I think what your doing is great, and it stuck me as Erie when you said "It a bit of the wild west" regarding building your own FPV rig... I was thinking this just recently and had begun working on an interesting business model to solve it. However, i struggled with the product end of my solution regarding sourcing parts, packaging and distribution. Perhaps you would be interested in a quick phone chat to explain what I was thinking, and maybe we can work something out?

Thanks so much I appreciate the feedback and i'm glad you enjoyed the site. I think your on to something with the how-to section, and if you sign up for the mailing list, I will most likely be introducing a video series soon that will cover building a drone from scratch. Right from the ordering parts online, to the final flight and testing!
