Re: Fedxx Import

Before I cleared the Radio myself I was going to let Fedxx do it, they emailed me the form to authorize them to do it. But when I saw the amount was left blank on the form I called them up and was told they wouldn't know what the fee was until they cleared the item, but wanted me to sign the form and send it back. For my gas and time I would've paid them up to $50.00. But I had a feeling I was going to get nailed for half the value of the Radio plus the brokerage fee's. They were real pushy trying to get me to sign that form with no amount on it.

That's what we do with tools when traveling there. Either have the chest sealed if just passing through or catalogued if they are going to be used while there.

If you travel to the USA with a bunch of electronic gadgets or anything of value, Canada Customs can ask you to prove that you purchased those items in canada when you return. They will ask for an original receipt or you can register the items before you leave Canada with customs and they will guive you a card with the list of items on it.

Re: Fedxx Import

I have not sent something for repair for a while. The procedure use to be. Take the open package with all the packing to the post office and get the postage. Then take the package to customs and get a declaration from them. They close it and mail it. Then when it comes back all you have to pay is for the cost of the repair. Check with Fedex they might do the same.

Re: Fedxx Import

Happened to me once with horizon. Sent my radio back by courier and they tried to hit me for fees. Refused the radio, contacted Horizon and they took care of everything from their end and I had the radio back in two days from when I refused the shipment.
After that I always tell the companies to send back via USPS only.

Fedxx Import

I sent a Radio back to the States for repair, knowing it was out of warranty. The company has excellent customer service and did the repair under warranty. And then returned it by Fedxx. Fedxx tried for three weeks to nail me import duties on the Canadian value of the Radio even though it was a warranty repair. They wouldn't even look at the packing slip that said warranty repair. I cleared it myself after an afternoon in Mississauga, and hours on the phone. Both the Company that returned my Radio and myself will never use Fedxx again.

Cheers Floyd
