Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

Flying Models is the most consistent, and gives the most general overview of the hobby, not just r/c. Many guys skip FM because it has c/l and freeflight models in there, ignoring the fact that some of the more interesting innovations come from those facets of modelling.

I like the UK mags, again because of the different perspectives on the hobby. I still have old copies of MAN and RCM, and quit both because the content was virtually invisible in the ads. If I want a retail catalogue, I will buy a retail catalogue...

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

I dropped RC Modeler a while before it folded and have subscribed to M.A.N. and Flying Models for decades. But I won't be renewing M.A.N this year as it has steadily moved out of my fields of interest, just like R.C.M. had.
In my opinion Flying Models goes from strength to strength and has nicely balanced content so I vote for it, Chris.
The British mags are just too pricey for my pocket and, while interesting enough, rather lacking in meaningful content.

No one has mentioned FLYING SCALE MODELS from the UK. If you are interested in scale models, as I am, I have found this magazine the best and most informative. It is a bit expensive by the time it gets here, even by subscription.

The guys there must use adhesives/glues too.

Glenn.

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

Thanks for the support guys.

In all honesty, I wouldnt write for Fly RC if I didnt respect and believe what the other contributors have to say. Some of them (Kevin Siemonsen) are very knowledgeable - and Kevin is Canadian as well, from Kingston.

A lot of good people at Fly RC. Remember, membership doesnt pay the bills, advertising does. So yes, there are pages of ads. But if you read, and I mean REALLY read each article in the magazine (not just skim) there is a lot of great content each month.

I am a pretty well rounded and knowledgeable modeler I think, and I still manage to learn something each issue I read. So, thats why I say its a good magazine with some great content.

I still buy the odd MAN - sad to say over the years they have lost some of their better staff IMO. And I buy some of the imports that Nuker spoke of... when I am at a Chapters in the city.

All in all, there are no mags that will please everyone. MAN as far as I know still has the most numbers printed per month, with Fly RC a close second.

All I can say is I try and do an honest review on engines and airframes. And I am branching out - will have a heli in there soon, and in the fall a full review on a jet and turbine! Plus the usual round of engines when I get time...

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

For years I subscribed to RC Modeler Magazine and Model Airplane News. I still literally have boxes of old mags stored in my basement.

I no longer subscribe to any mags other than the MAAC of course as I just simply got tired of paying $10 for about 75% of the content being advertizing!

I still pick up the odd mag at Chapters if any of the articles are of interest to me and that is usually Fly RC for the engine reviews and occasionally a MAN. One of the main reasons I even subscribed to RCM for so long was the fact that I enjoyed Clarence Lee's engine reviews. Now it is our friend Andrew doing a great job in Fly RC.

Thanks for the input guys. Not specifically looking for a Canadian magazine, I did advertise in the MAAC magazine but economics have caused me to stop. My supplier wants to target both countries and need to know which is the more popular one for Canadians.

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

I read RCM&E

They now have a North American version. Different name (RC Model Aeroplane) but the same content so that might be an option.

I had every issue of FLYRC until last Jan, then stopped. MAN same thing. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it's easy to get lost in the ads in those mags.

And of course I go through the MAAC mag.
