Re: on road racing

I havne't been here yet as I was away for work last winter. I do want to show my support because I do want somewhere close to race during the summer months. So maybe if it's raining this weekend, I'll bring my trucks to Universal. I will have the wrong setup, but at least I'll get to run some packs. I sure hope I don't have the same experience as other people have with it being closed or closed early.

A few comments: if the weather is nice we also have to show support for our local outdoor tracks if we want them to survivie and we can't be in two places at once.

We CAN'T race outside in the winter months so I think it's great for the owner's of an indoor track that they at least get some people during the summer months. A few people during the summer is better than no one in the winter.

Personally I think that it was a bad timing to open the in door track up with spring approaching (now here) and everyone running for the outdoors to race, with the exception to on road. I think that Universal could have worked the 2 weeks of on road and 2 weeks off road like Fastcats did. just my thoughts.

Re: on road racing

Just thought that you should know what is floating around the RC Community.

Now not to sure how much truth there is to this, but the info should be heard to allow the RC community speak on it and for Universal to have their say on it as well.

Re: on road racing

You definitely raise valid points and obviously are more educated then I on the subject....I am speaking on behalf of some guys that have said the same thing that I am trying to say. I too like the track the way it is, I was just trying to figure out a way to bring guys back to the track during the summer months....I just don't want to see a good thing go, that's all

Re: on road racing

Honestly I think it's going to be almost impossib;e to draw people indoors when the weather is nice and there are already enough places outdoors. I know it sucks for the track owners and I sincerely feel for them but summer is always going to be a lean time and I'm not sure that they would be well advised to drop coin on a track in an attempt to buck the trend.
Clay is fun to drive on, so is carpet. Is one more fun than the other, maybe a little but enough to warrant the risk?

Re: on road racing

Indoor dirt would just create a whole new set of problems. The indoor air would be full of dust constantly and you'd be breathing it every second you are there. Clay is gonna start to smell after a couple of months also. The owners of the track have already dumped a huge amount of cash into this place and there's no one showing up to run. Now you want them to invest how many more thousands on trucking in dirt and the tools required to maintain this. Personally I like it just the way it is......CARPET! Its clean, easy to reconfigure the track and offers a ton of traction. Keep it the way it is and everyone should come out and run at least once a week if we want it to stay open. If not.....we are the ones that will regret it come winter. Remember FastCats? They had ozite carpet, an outdoor dirt track and and outdoor asphalt track and still not enough people showed up in the summer months to keep the place profitable so it closed. Same will happen here unless we stop the bickering and show our support.

Re: on road racing

I understand that everybody wants to be racing outdoors in the summer, hell I just went out and bought myself an 1/8 nitro buggy. My concern lies in that I want a place to drive in the fall and winter....if nobody supports the track during the summer months, we will not have a track to race at in the Winter. So to entice people to go there and race during the summer months, I think they should put in some clay. At least you would still be driving in the dirt.

Re: on road racing

As much as it pains me to say it, indoor racing during the summer is dead. Onroad will pick up in the Fall, trying to sell it now is a losing game.
I wish you all the luck in the world but......
