Re: I need Help! Excessive Tail Wag

Guys,

Thanks for all the tip. I will do another run through it soon. The pitch slider has about 1mm of slop. Not sure if that is just Blade quality control, or slop from over 150 flights.

It can be any number of things, but you need to eliminate each variable one at a time. Some good pointers in the posts above.

Here is one other thing you can try, and if all is good here, it will give you the confidence that this part of the equation is OK and allow you to continue to look elsewhere:

Disconnect the tail rotor linkage from the servo end and gently slide it back and forth with your hand. The complete tail linkage assembly should move smooth as silk. If it is sticky, you have some interference problems causing friction or the tail pitch slider is dry.

9 times out of 10 that I have seen this happen, it is a dry tail pitch slider. A drop of light machine oil or silicone OIL (not silicone spray) will free it up.

How is your tail servo after the crash? Still buttery smooth?

Re: I need Help!

did you check to see if servo arm and tail arm are 90deg ?

Re: I need Help!

Check if the slider or pitch lever are either sticking or too sloppy?

Eye test, yes. I also replaced it for good measure.

Did you check the tail shaft to see if it is true?

Re: I need Help!

Hey,

I have:

- done the entire BeastX set-up, incl tinkering with all the tail settings
- played with the gain settings
- new tail servo
- remounted BeastX
- replaced most of the tail mechanisms (not incl the pitch lever or pitch slider, I will try that Cougar)
- balanced main and tail blades
- new main shaft/belt
- Adjusted belt tension

That is all I can think of for now, but I have been tinkering with Parameter D (tail heading lock gain), I will see if that does anything. Also put a new servo arm on tonight and re-centred the tail servo (mechanically and servo end-points in the BeastX).

Re: I need Help!

Read through my sticky and see if anything helps:

https://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/show...ht=Gyro+sticky

The short answer is as follows: Usually a side-to-side wag is the result of vibrations getting to the gyro or binding/slop in the tail pitch mech. Vertical tail bounce is most likely too low a head speed.

Lots can get hit and out of balance in a boink. To check the tail look for blurry horizontal tail fin ends at full RPM. That points to the T/R. Another one hard to see without removal is the flybar, (if you still run that system).

Just out of curiosity what have you done and changed maybe someone could give some insight on the forums that you may have overlooked.
Thanks
Matt
