Re: TREX 450 having troubles starting

Glad to hear the new ESC is making the difference, Rick.

Good luck to the GF on Saturday. Have fun at the show!

Re: TREX 450 having troubles starting

I check all the connections and there were no bad solder joints. I did not have a spare motor or ESC so I took a gamble and replaced the ESC with a Phoenix ICE ESC 50A and we now have contact.

If anyone is using the same ESC with a Trex 450 3GX I would be interested in knowing your ESC settings. I also picked up the field programming card for the ESC which makes setup a lot easier. For anyone installing a new ICE ESC make sure you set your throttle limits...

Rod will be there too. Rod pretty much brings his entire spare parts toolboxes with enough spares to build 4 helicopters...LOL. I am sure we can find the cause of your heli this aft by process of elimination.

Depending on where the bad joint is I guess. On a power wire you'd notice it pretty quick because even if the joint holds for a bit, the electrical connection is bad. Only way to know for sure is to remove the heat shrink and physically look at it.

My experience has been the opposite. Usually with a bad solder joint, it holds for a while, then under use and vibration eventually lets go so the wire has a very weak electrical connection to the connector which causes intermittent problems.

I had a 450 I'd bought second hand that I flew for a year or two before one of those motor wires finally let go and started giving me trouble. Upon inspection it was clearly a cold solder joint.

To rick - take max up on his offer. It's a whole lot easier being able to look at the heli, the radio, etc in your hand than it is playing 20 questions here. It'll be a great opportunity to learn in general. Max is a smart guy, I'm confident he'll figure out the problem easily.
