Re: FW 1550kv outrunner 12 blade 90mm Fan (stock basic fan)

Hopefully it spools up without too many vibrations. My luck with taking stuff apart and having it work better is not great...LOL

Re: The Eagle has landed! Freewing F15 90mm PNP (upgraded to 8-9S)

Today we finally had a chance to fly with the much lighter Powerfun 8S setup mentioned earlier.
Very pleased with how the plane flies now. More power than the original stock 6S but much lighter in feel than when I had our previous 8S setup. No question the Changesun setup had more thrust and better vertical but this is a good compromise IMO. 4 minute flight time showed +3.8v remaining per cell from our 5000mah packs. The feel on approach was much steadier with less power needed. The flare seemed more predictable and a softer touchdown every time (unlike previously). It almost felt like more of a high alpha approach without any instability or fear of stalling.
So nice having the air brake finally working with full deflection on touchdown. Servo driven is quicker and has more throw than stock. I wouldn’t try it in the air, don’t want to push my luck.
I finally think I might like the way this model flies (enough to feel I will get my money’s worth).

Mods to date,
Fully upgraded cockpit,
Straightened thrust nozzles,
Main gear doors that close with gear down,
Working paddle brakes driven by the flap servos,
Widened main wheel stance,
Lowered ailerons to help regain lift lost from too much washout,
Home made AB light,
High vis paint scheme,
New powerfun 8S fan with lightweight 120amp 8S ESC,
YEP 20 amp BEC and Scorpion Backupguard.

My concerns about achieving balance we unfounded. Even with a pair of heavy 560g 4S packs, my CG is very close to my original CG (within 3/16”). Moving the YEP BEC aft was worth the effort and cleaned up the forward battery area.

With any luck flight times should be the same or better.
Installed the EDF, ESC and BEC. AB made using a 6V yellow LED.

JETcro It's a good jet to try that setup in if you can get the cg right
I'm curious what your flight times will be.

Downgrade upgrade? Removing our current 8S fan for a much lighter Powerfun 8S setup. Replacing the YEP for a PLUSH32 ESC gives further weight savings totalling 299g!
I know the power is less since it draws 20amps less but overall I expect a better flying plane.

After sorting out the wiring, we decided to get the air brake working. The stock actuator failed years ago so we subbed in a servo. The servo arm had to be extended with a spring assist.

Sounds like it could have been a close one to damaging your model or worse. Anytime I smell that acred smell in shop I get very nervous.

Re: The Eagle has landed! Freewing F15 90mm PNP (upgraded to 8-9S)

Was adding a diode to our F15 BEC today and when powering up, smoke was seen coming from the retract gear and door sequencer wire!
Lucky I could unplug the battery before and other wires were damaged. Turns out the RX control wire must have twisted enough to short the positive and negative leads right where it is attached to the board. There was a tiny smear of silicone to prevent such a short, but it wasn’t enough.
Replaced the wire and all is well. Added some 5 minute epoxy to the connection to prevent it happening again.

Thanks, haven't used those lipo alarms, bit I think its time to start. Will post pics, when i refinish it. Has anyone found ways to lighten this bird a little?
