Re: engine cleaner

Normaly you let it cook overnight, minimum then it'll come out like new. You rince everything under running water and oil all the parts before reassembly.
You have a like new engine.

Should be ready right after your bowl of cornflakes are finished depending on what time you get up.

Re: engine cleaner

Well, I have my enya in pieces in a crock pot with antifreeze. Bin in for an hour and nothing has come off the parts. It is on LOW so how long will it take?

Re: engine cleaner

I agree with all of Cougar's points - but let me add one.

Remove the carburator before cooking. - all of that carbon and varnish comes off and then it can plug those very small ports in the carb.

If not - be sure to strip and clean the Carb REALLY Good!

Re: engine cleaner

I often use the crockpot method. Was able to find one at a resale shop for $8 and the anti-freeze can be filtered and reused, so long term I find it is a lot less expensive than other methods. Mine has no temp control and the liquid can get VERY hot, but it does not seem to harm anything and a well baked Saito 91 can come out clean in a little over 2 hours. Much harder build up may take longer. Just be advised it will definitely remove paint, so an OS LA40 will not look the same at the end.

Disassembly helps get all the parts clean, but if you find some bits heavily gunked or seized to the point they will not come apart then do a first soak with it together. I do not find any damage to rubber or gaskets if you allow things to cool before trying to take it apart again.

I have to second the fact this can be a bit hazardous. You should only do this in a well ventilated area and then never use the pot for food production. Also, the parts and glycol can be extremely hot. A ladle or other method for removal is a good idea and then wait for the parts to cool before handling.

One other warning is this can free up contamination inside the case, so rolling the crank over before flushing the internals such as bearings out can cause later issues.

Re: engine cleaner

Disassemble all you can without any damage then do the treatment. If there are parts you cannot take apart they should come apart once they have soaked for awhile.
Sometimes it will take 12 to 24 hours with the antifreeze method depending how bad the engine is.
I wouldn't worry about the gaskets, they should be replaced anyway.

You will also need to scrub with a toothbrush....an old one

Let us know how you make out and if you wanted to drive here I have a crockpot with antifreeze you can have.
I use an ultrasonic cleaner now.
