Re: Carden.H9 Extra 300-**CFBBJ**

Thanks for the help guys.

Mrs. Claus was good to me so I have some funds for the purchase of a 50cc back-up / hack around plane. I do love the twin idea though.

Cut the cowl sides out for the plugs and add Z28 style hood scoops .... hmmmm ..... real 70's muscle car retro style.

New Theme idea Trevor?

Back to thinking and planning.

With the open style fuse and semi carden style wouldn't retro'n for a pipe be a bit tough? The older yak looks about the same and the mtw75k (shorty) was all that really fit (or similar ) the tuned pipe wouldn't clear the wing tube rudder tray etc if I recall. Yes I know it could probably be modified to fit. But then If it isn't a right for out of the box , you bought the wrong arf IMHO

I will have one of these in my hangar !

I agree with trev on this one it does float well and the carden wing works very well. You can do super cub style circuits the wing works that well.

Brendan... Talk to Jim Daly about his h9 Extra. I've flown it lots with the 3W55cs on a canister and it's a Jen of a combo!!! Super precise and really smooth and quiet. It's heavy but with the thicker Carden-style wings (good cubic wing loading) it really floats if you want it to. I think Jim's is a hair over 20lbs.

If you do it, go pipes. That extra oouummmpphhh would be a big help! Eme60 or GP61 would be my choice!!

Re: Carden.H9 Extra 300-**CFBBJ**

Brendan, with the 3W-56 I doubt there's 1mm from the boot on the right side as viewed from the front. I had suspected I would have to cut a hole in the cowl on that side. Once it's running I still may have too. The left side there is a little more room and won't have to be cut.

I had the measurements of a DA 70 when I was putting this one together and as you have mentioned, it is wider and both sides would have to be cut. For me it wouldn't be an issue, kind of cool actually!

Re: Carden.H9 Extra 300-**CFBBJ**

Could you tell me if there is much clearance between the plug boots and the cowl. The DA70 twin is 4.4 mm wider on each side (total of 8.8mm from boot to boot) according to some dimension literature I found. Would there be that much extra room? Hard to see from your pictures.

Thanks

So, sorry nothing to report!

Jack:

So how did this plane / engine combination work out? I am looking into purchasing the same plane and have been looking at the DLE60 and the DA70 twins until I found this thread.

I want something for an IMAC back-up and (precise on lines) and something I can fool around with as well. I also like the idea of a twin. I did see Jims fly and was quite impressed.

Your opinion?
