Re: funtana 125 dle 30 ?

I have a Funtana 125 that I assembled origionally with an electric setup. I flew it in an IMAC contest and then decided to go either gas or glow to have enough sustained power to complete the two back to back sequences.

I have a CRRC 26cc gas that I considered. With the measurements I used I think it would have fit nicely although I would have had to cut a considerable size cutout in the bottom of the cowl to clear the cylender and muffler. I don't think the weight would be a problem but I and a couple of others I know who had this plane found that it did build somewhat tail heavy and required weight in the front to get a good balance. I had to add 6 oz of weight even with the heavy electric motor and 6S battery pack jammed right up tight to the firewall.

I however opted to go with a Saito 125 as I wanted to use the 26cc gasser for my Neiuport 17 build. But now I face the same problem with weight. I think the gas engine would have nicely have taken care of that problem.

Well, the winter is still to shortly come and last for a few months so ya never know. Perhaps I may change my mind again and switch the engines and use the gasser for the Funtana afterall. It should be a nice combination of plane and power, in MHO anyway!

PS: That's my new Funtana 125 in my Avitar <<<<<
