Re: SPAD glider build?

Looks like the glider build is on hold, or toast altogether. Supplier can't get small amounts of 2mm coroplast.

Re: SPAD glider build?

By the look of the pencil on the table that tail feather set must be about 24" accross, 8" deep, standing about 16" tall (my guess anyway). How monstrous must the entire bird have been

I'm in the process of a 6 foot 2mm wing for the first time. 3" diehedral, making it for a trainer bird...in case any of the family wants to fly. No more worry about wiping out a balsa bird and the resultant fixing.

I wondered why the tail is in a "t" configuration?

Re: SPAD glider build?

mine had lost of dihedral because i designed for lifting payload. i was also powered by nitro. wasn't a real glider but had all the glider characteristics. as for the wing your looking for should could be 8feet 8" cord DIH what ever you want it to be the more you give the more stable it gets less DIH less stable. T tail works fine just put plywood in between 4mm chloroplast for strength horizontal stabilizer i made like a wing out of 2mm fuse use 4mm coro folded in a tube like figure.

Thanks for your input Ricky.
Do you mean you had 12" of dihedral, from wing root to tip? All at once or nearer the wing tip? 2mm for tail feathers too? Fuselage construction? Questions questions questions.

Re: SPAD glider build?

that is easy man. mine was an 8 foot wing span 12 inches off dihedral 12 inch cord alirons just under 48 by 2 inches used three yard sticks. i used a glider for mine as plan. mine is broke in half right now but building a bigger one this winter going for a 12 footer. hit a tree but worked perfectly until that point.2 mm was all i used. my 12 footer will be two pieces ill take pics on how to do it in two pieces

SPAD glider build?

I'm thinking of making a SPAD glider this winter and wonder if anyone has tried before, what the results were. I know the weight will be a killer, plastic's heavier than balsa or foam, but it's worth a try.

Questions:
Can I get a 2m+ wingspan that can break down for transport?
What should I use as a model/plan/something to copy? Simple remember.
Anything to avoid re:diehdral, polyhedral?

Joining center for 2 part wing is what I'm thinking might be a problem. Has anyone made 2 part wings as a spad? Any hints?
