Re: Mini OSD w GPS hookup That is very interesting I want to do that for $25 is not bad. I don't have LRS just FrSky so that is what I want it for Thanks Bcsalt. |

Re: Mini OSD w GPS hookup I have had plans to do it. But never got around to it. Looks excellent for a $25 GPS OSD. Just as a I suggest - not for flying too far with though. You can add your own text to the code also, like your HAM handle That fellow iRunforFun on RCG Canada FPV thread has done this flash procedure a few times - very smart guy. |

Re: Mini OSD w GPS hookup I am a huge fan of the Tek Sumo. But I got carried away with overbuilding them this past fall. My first couple of Tek Sumos were simple and ultralight, running 2200mah. dead easy to launch and would fly for half an hour. Not great in gusty winds, but most of the time perfect. When I started adding Mobius, UHF, GPS CE OSD and 2700 mah it transformed the plane to a very difficult to launch bird. Not so much fun at all. OK once it is up there is is more solid and just fine to fly, but launches are now very stressful. I want to go back and build a lightweight streamlined one, but am thinking the Skylark Tiny OSD would be a perfect choice. I worry that the monkeyblunt adds unnecessary weight, too. Sometimes simpler and lighter is best. I could do my own kind of blunt with coroplast maybe. |

It will probably fit in the Minion but I don't need it and I rather have a lighter frame. P. |

Re: Mini OSD w GPS hookup Quote:
I like how simple and small it is, a lot like EZOSD. Home arrow, voltages, amps, alt and speed - pretty much all you need if you can live without RTH. |

Re: Mini OSD w GPS hookup Is that a short answer lol it is well explained bcsalt I read a bit about the storm and I like it for a fix wing right now I have the skylark mini osd I tested it but haven't use it yet since I don't have a flying plaine or wing yet I'm actually thinking on selling it if I don't get to build a wing this winter no point on having it collecting dust and it has being there for almost a year now I was thinking on a cheap one with pointer home for a small wing. Re: Mini OSD w GPS hookup oh my that is a big question! buddy of mine just asked the same Q My mini advice is to buy Storm OSD. I like it, it was EASY. RTH and looks great here is my 'short' answer I gave to him: GPS OSD – for plane or quad? Makes a difference, though you can use with a quad but might miss out on autopilot features. Also depends how reliable you want it to be, and how far you want to fly. I have used everything from $10 simple OSD to $350 Eagle Tree OSD. I use the $14 Hobbyking E-OSD the most at VMP with all those planes that I don’t go far with (have about 8 of these). 2 voltages and timer and that’s it. I think my favourite is the $150 Storm OSD with autopilot and return to home like I had on the Skysurfer. Meant for fixed wing. The latest StormOSD also has a AH (artificial horizon). My Storm was very plug and play - didn't even have to change the stabilization gains! My Eagle Tree is on my big yellow Zephyr2 and it is part of a very advanced and expandable system. I also have a $300 RVOSD which is even more advanced than Eagle Tree with waypoint-programming and pitch ladder on the artificial horizon. RVOSD is popular with the veteran FPVers as it is incredibly well designed into one box, unlike Eagle Tree which is a nest of wires. Hobbyking has a few OSD under $100 with GPS now. They are not well designed nor reliable, but might be useful for getting GPS telemetry when you don’t really rely on it. I put one of the $25 GPS OSD from Hobbyking on my Polaris and it was partially defective. Ardupilot Mega (‘APM’) now has an OSD module called MinimOSD, which is highly configurable. It can be made ultra advanced, with autopilot for planes, multicopters, with autolanding, waypoints, etc. But it is not plug&play like most other OSD. If you want to also add a Ground Control Station (GCS), then you need one of the advanced OSD/autopilots. Eagle Tree, RVOSD, DragonOSD, APM and a couple others can do ground control stations on a laptop, iPhone or iPad. This is not what I use, but I think that Adrian has set up his multicopter with APM and a GCS. Some GCS also transmit waypoint and control data to the aircraft using its own UHF transmitter .. so you can fly around using a mouse adjusting the autopilot like the US military does. Ruby uThere is an advanced autopilot with OSD option. It is full featured with waypoints, RTH and autoland/takeoff for fixed wing craft. There are at least 10 other OSD I have not mentioned above that are also very good: The Skylark products. The ImmersionRC EZOSD. I do not like the Feiyu OSD. Ugly. Hobbyking sells copies of it as F-Tek OSD and Arkbird OSD. I don’t like those. I also have a cheap Suppo Pigeon OSD with GPS from Bambucopter. Cost about $50 or so and works OK. No amps monitoring. Some links to the proven, well respected OSD: EZOSD – widely used by veteran FPVer despite no autopilot http://team-blacksheep.com/products/product:92 Storm OSD bargain with autopilot http://www.foxtechfpv.com/cyclops-st...are-p-688.html RVOSD – high end OSD http://www.rangevideo.com/rangevideo-osd.html DragonOSD – more affordable full featured, even GCS on your phone. A little finicky to set up at first. Highly customizable http://hobbywireless.com/index.php?m...ex&cPath=19_60 EagleTree OSD (hey they are on Whidbey Island near here) latest version has colour OSD – no waypoint following though you can set waypoints and manually fly to them. Can have GCS, GPS coord on my ground station, works with their antenna tracker system (which I have but I do not use) http://www.eagletreesystems.com/ Ardupilot – this is for hackers. Can do amazing things, but not plug and play. Newbies have fired up their quads and never seen their aircraft again, but the community support is huge. http://www.diydrones.com/notes/ArduPilot Skylark – various OSD, and good reviews online. Some cheap, some advanced choices http://www.skylarkfpv.com/store/inde...tegory&path=20 Ruby uThere very new and not widely used. $500 with their OSD, ouch http://www.uthere.com/ Hope this helps |
