Re: Prop jet Avro Arrow

I guess I'll have to bend to customer pressure and do a re-design with this model. Most have been asking if it can be converted into a EDF model, so after I get back from holidays, I'll do a setup for a single 70 mm EDF unit.
I'll need to make molds for the bifurcated thrust tube which will be vacuformed not molded fiberglass and a new tail cone, a more scale looking item that will have the stinger molded in.
No intake ducting, but I'll vacuform a generic intake ring that can be sized and glued to the front of any 70 mm EDF unit.
I want to make it light, so will start testing with a Mega ACn 16 EDF with a 3 cell battery and then with a 4 cell. Then for those who ready want to push it, I'll try the Mega EDF 5S which is good for 5 to 6 cells.
Since the original model was only around 32 oz with the old motor setup from the Stryker, I should get the model with the EDF unit in and around 40 to 45 oz. The addition of the molded plastic parts, the covering and the EDF unit make up the additional weight.

Hey John,

I finally got to maiden mine, didn't go as planned. Bungie could have been stronger and the prop collet on the motor shaft came loose so no thrust

Not a lot of damage but need the time to repair. Thanks for the replies on the PM's, I'll let you know what I'm going to do.

Re: Prop jet Avro Arrow

Always great to see CF-105s. I did Madrobs little 19" pusher version as RL201 in it's 'final flight' scheme. I had a 3000kv BW motor on a 2cell 1000mah battery and 5X5 prop. The plane was always a handful and I was semi terrified every time I launched it. A friend pointed out the issue was probably that it was setup too sensitive in roll and/or not enough in pitch so certainly the the design is not to fault. Still, seeing yours makes me miss mine. I destroyed it when I got too low in a fast pass and the prop caught the turf at full power.

Re: Prop jet Avro Arrow

Happy New Years to all of you fellow modellers.

Like many of us, I showed up at the club's Frozen Finger Fun Fly on the morning of January 1st with my model. It was mostly sunny with a slight breeze coming straight at you when standing on the flight line, it wasn't that cold, but the breeze certainly made it feel a lot colder after a couple of minutes and bare hands holding the transmitter. Was actually glad to hear the motor winding down so I could land and get warm. Not as tough as I used to be I guess.

Because RL-201 was originally painted all white, a couple of days before the event, I painted the red hi-viz on it, just to jazz it up a little. Just adding that to it made the old foamy look new again, well from a distance. With the colour contrast, it did stand out a lot better in the sky and while on the snow.

The bungee cord that I am using is the rubber exercise elastic that you can get from a exercise equipment supplier, it comes in different tension grades, mine is black which denotes the second strongest. I can get up to 40 lbs of tension with it as a single strand. The best part, it still can hold it's elastic qualities in the winter where as the latex bungee cords just go limp once they get cold.

Re: Prop jet Avro Arrow

Not a problem John, my guys in Scaborough already informed me that the parts are on the way... Thanks again.

I've already put together the fuselage and the wing, once I'm done assembling the front section, it will have formed the shape of an Arrow...

Great design John, great quality too... Can't wait to fly it! I recommend this kit to anyone with a heart for Arrow's, truly a beauty!

Apparently, I made a boo boo, I'll have the parts made and at your store on Monday morning so they can get it to you later in the day. And just trim the lower fuselage to match the two side rails, how I got that measurement wrong is baffling, I should have adjusted the measurement on my manufacturing instructions after the original was assembled.

Re: Prop jet Avro Arrow

Thanks again for the kit John! I'm starting the build tomorrow, I opened the box a little while ago to familiarize myself with the parts and I can't seem to see how the front part of the Arrow goes together, the section under the cockpit to the nose cone. I've attached a photo, maybe you could help me? The parts circled in red are parts I assume are garbage, please correct me if I'm wrong... (btw from looking at the parts list, I think I am missing these 4 pieces: Forward Fuselage Sides x2, Forward Fuselage Lower Plate x1, Forward Fuselage Top Plate x1) Again, let me know if I'm wrong lol all the parts I got are in the photo minus the motor...

I don't know how to send a photo through PM so I thought I'd just post it here... Give me a call when you get a chance! Thanks again
