Re: -$138,424 membership fee drop

I am glad at my club's field that a visitor must be accompanied by a member. Just because someone says they have their wings and are a member of MAAC does not equal competence. I have this argument all the time with other members. Someone has to ensure everyone flying at the field is flying safely. Thanks MAAC for making safety a priority and thanks for going to bat for us with TC.

These guys were flying at home in a rural setting on their own properties and hurting no one! Needless to say they never came back to our club and I don't blame them. I was appalled at his Holier than Thou rant and for the first time ever ashamed to be associated with MAAC!
Sad...but .... Thats not what he means. Not a "newbee" issue.

Local pissing match with history that goes back many years.... and doesn't belong on an open forum. Thats as far as I go with it as it does not directly involve me.

It's that Elitist attitude that turns people off so bad in my opinion no matter in what hobby or pastime it surfaces.

We all pull our pants on one leg at a time. It seems that every time I start thinking I'm better that the next guy I find out his is super good at something I have never been able to do.

Humble pie is much easier to eat if you look in the mirror and start each day with a taste.

People seem to like you better too!

Re: -$138,424 membership fee drop

Sorry to hear that. That should never happen.

I have had clubs rent venues and get their own insurance for certain events so they could have non MAAC members attend.
Their idea was to show the lone wolf flyers how much fun it can be as a group. To hang around with others with similar interests.

Every one of those events was successful. They always got new members joining both the club and MAAC once they saw the benefits MAAC had to offer. And the fun they had flying with other people.

That is most unfortunate, inappropriate and disappointing.

I also believe MAAC is at the forefront of protecting how we used to participate in the hobby of flight. MAAC has a couple seats where the rubber meets the road (TC Committees), and having those positions should allow our collective voice to be heard, and influence where the future of the hobby could be going.

To this point RC enthusiasts have had it pretty good, don't get close to full scale planes, and don't fly into a cloud. It wasn't going to last forever. With the TC review of the act, it almost equates to a license if you are going to receive any remuneration for a flight. One pre-requisite for a UAV SOFC is proof of training. Who better to do the training tha a well established, long term organization like MAAC.

I doubt HK or many Canadian retailers of RC flight equipment is going to offer training. To date I have only heard (seen) of one RC retailer offering training. Retailer are sure making sure liability isn't going to be coming back on them.
Don't create a rule that no one is going to enforce. The wings program is a suggestion and as good or as bad as it is, at the end is up to the club to either enforce it or not. It is not a "MAAC" thing.
