Re: Robart Pnuematic Tires Too Soft Can say the Bear worked out much better than expected on pavement, although a push from outside factors had me land much sooner than expected. That had the Robart struts fully compress and bend one pin slightly. Still tracked straight. Anyway, along with the tires I am trying a set of Pac Rim alloy struts. Same extended length, but I modified them for a longer stroke and added O-rings on the lower section of each that will hopefully prevent solid contact if pushed in that far. These tires ended up slightly stiffer than the previous set so time will tell if I'm going in the right direction. |

Re: Robart Pnuematic Tires Too Soft You can get solid Behotec tires to fit the Robart wheels from Peter at Altecare. |

Re: Robart Pnuematic Tires Too Soft I followed the plan and hogged out a pair of foam wheels. Took quite a while to get them to fit, but not too bad. If the weather cooperates will try the bear tomorrow with the stock wheels before bolting these on. |

Re: Robart Pnuematic Tires Too Soft Check out foam hair rollers available at dollar stores. Maybe they would work as inserts...very cheap. Earl "Narly1" Anderson |

Re: Robart Pnuematic Tires Too Soft http://robart.com/collections/wheels...els-2-4?page=2 have a look at the bottom of this page.. guess they are different for different wheel sizes .. which would make sense... |

Re: Robart Pnuematic Tires Too Soft Gary... Robert does sell inserts for these wheels to increase their load capacity... I have used them and they do work... I think they are basically a length of a round foam insulation about 3/4 inch in diameter (grey) that should be available at a hardware outlet.. The hobart part number is FOAM1 .. i can measure a set here if you would like to see if you can get the foam locally.. Chris |

Robart Pnuematic Tires Too Soft Now that I have most of the bugs worked out, I started flying the T/T Rare Bear more often this year. It had some serious issues to correct and has sat for quite a while awaiting timing, the weather and courage to try again: https://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/showthread.php?t=132690 I'm down to the last of the programming for the elevator and with 1/4" travel limits in flight I run out when landing. We work from grass so as soon as the tires touch over it goes. The extremely long legs don't help either. The idea is to see if the largest wheels I can fit within the wells would help on this surface. So, I went looking through my spares and found a set of Robart 3 1/4" two-piece scale wheels. http://robart.com/collections/wheels...ht-tread-wheel These are fitted with a split hub that clamps the tire beads together when assembled. There is no inflation fitting, so you are stuck with whatever is trapped at the time you screw the hubs together. Since the tire compound is very soft and Rare Bear relatively obese, wonder how they can support any weight at all without looking completely flat. I found a set of soft foamies that look like with some carving they will fit inside the tire to provide contour under load. Was wondering if anyone has better ideas here. ps. If things work out I may be able to try it on pavement at my friends jet event tomorrow. Only fear is grass stops it before it goes far. Asphalt would act like a grinding wheel if things get ugly. Plan to keep the original tires for the first attempt. |
