Re: Diesel for JetCats? Yes Sir!

I have been running diesel in my Kingtech for over a year and has run flawlessly. The smell inside the house is non existent and the convenience of purchasing at any pump is another bonus

Re: Diesel for JetCats? Yes Sir!

I think if you read all of the thread by Dave there could be implications of running diesel that I would rather spend time flying then having to send my jetcats in for earlier service intervals and not the same running performance, I will be staying with Jet A or kerosene. If I were to use diesel in my Jetcats I would definitely benefit in price, considering when I fill up the A-10, it holds 300 ounces for one flight. I have an excellent supply of Jet A where I fly, so I don't think it will be an issue for me, others mileage may differ.

"The service time maybe reduced and could be more expensive based on the additives Diesel fuel contain, due to sediment blockage. More information will come with JetCat experience I'm sure.
It is likely that changes in conditions could affect the running more than if running on Kerosene, which the turbines were originally developed to run on. My guess is users in the USA with such varied conditions/heights could experience the biggest changes in running characteristics. Users are recommended to take every precaution changing fuel types, pump Diesel is likely to be dirty and filters could become blocked earlier. Cautious power testing before flight is also recommended during early experiments."

I'll still run kero or jet a I can save money elsewhere if I really need to if costs were an issue for me I'd probably not be flying jets

Last year I had the fuller pop out of the can in my car. Lost about a 3 liters on to the folded back seat. Well I want to tell you I try every thing to get the smell out. It was pretty much gone but you always smelled trace amounts! I ended up replacing the entire back seat and carpet and underlay. I'm still burning diesel. It's because of the price. My Flash just loves the stuff! LOL

Re: Diesel for JetCats? Yes Sir!

bulk kerosene locally here was 1.70/litre last summer and diesel is 1.30 right now. For the amount I fly I won't be switching but if flying a lot I can see the price advantage.

Re: Diesel for JetCats? Yes Sir!

Go diesel and there will be one of those pumps a mile away at EVERY field you fly at

Last year I ran low on fuel at an event.. On the way back to the hotel I just pulled in to a gas station and filled up. Its just too easy

Yes they smoke on shut down.. but it just adds to the realizem. It also makes it easier to tell which way the wind is blowing for cool down LOL

$30+tax for 10L of Kero at select stores during certain hours or
20L of diesel for $23 available just about anywhere at at any time. its your call

We're talking in Canada Sean

Re: Diesel for JetCats? Yes Sir!

Doesn't diesel also smoke quite a bit on shut down? Can be a little disconcerting until you are used to it.
Some of our local gas stations pump kero so it's not too expensive and easy to get.
This station is less than a mile from our flying field....very convenient!
