Re: I Need Help Choosing my 1st

Ya... so I have terrible self control

My MCX2 is in the mail, last tracked in my local distribution outlet early this morning. Hopefully it arrives today before the weekend so I can play around with it some tonight / tomorrow.

I've picked up some extra work this week giving me a little more money to play with and have also agreed to purchased a previously loved MCR / Parkzone Sukhoi plane package off of MarkToo this weekend.

My thoughts being that all the R/Cs to start will use the same batteries and charger making life a little simpler for myself to start off with anyways. This should keep me busy for at least a little while.

I mainly bought the package off of mark for the MSR, spare batteries and the charger, but having the compatible plane was a bonus and thought there would be no better oppourtunity to have one and try it out. Besides, him being in the same city makes things easy.

I'll be playing around with the MCX first, then get into the MSR and the plane a little later. I'm thinking I should dabble into a sim before even thinking about the plane.

Are there any half descent flight sims that are free (wishful thinking) or even on the cheaper side? I know you usually get what you pay for, but thought I'd ask. The ones that I caught a glance at in the hobby shot were at least $100, I think one package was even over $300. Can't recall if they came with a controller or not. I'm not immediately looking for one, but probably will be by the beginning of summer.

*Edit: Never mind, I just saw there was a whole section on flight sims. I should have searched first. Guess I have lots more reading to do lol.

In the mean time I've been walking around the living room with the DX6 in my hands making buzzing sounds after getting home from work late in the evening. My wife and dogs have been looking at me kind of funny.

Re: I Need Help Choosing my 1st

I bought something tonight. I'll give you a hint: it starts with a "D" and ends with a "X6i"

Looks like I'm running scenerio 2, and although I've surpassed my original budget I'm well within my revised max budget lol.

Gives me some $ left over for some extra batteries and gives the piggy bank a head start for the next chopper.

Re: I Need Help Choosing my 1st

You guys are hilarious!

While I appreciate the sentiment, I'm a VERY average flyer. Many guys here could fly circles around me (or piro flips as the case may be). I have however, been very fortunate to have been given solid advice and instruction along the way - that has made a world of difference for me. Good equipment also helps - big time. Funny thing is, the more I learn, the less I feel I know...

I do like passing on what I have learned when I have the time and I really like getting a newbie addicted too - misery loves company no?

Spend good money first time in and then you only do it once save if you must. Buy a top end transmitter to what you an afford and will do with it 7-8 channel is fine such as a Futaba 8FG or DX8 or such. Buy quality proven electronics and research your model well. This is not a cheap side of hobby most expensive likely. Most difficult and most rewarding however. I realize you have a small budget but understand a heli etc under 200 is going to be limited and guaranteed if you get addicted I would pre authorize a 1300-2000 budget immediately. IMO of course...

This is good info, my decision on that combo will be the final price. If it's worth it then good, if not then no good.

I just called my LHS as I know they have a selection of used items on consignment. I was there yesterday but didn't pay attention to the transmitters. They don't have a DX6i, but while I was on the line there is a MSR RTF set with an extra battery for $100. Only thing it's missing is the multi-charger, but has a single charger.

Seems like a descent deal, not pulling the trigger on anything yet but that is way up on my list. Aligns pretty well with my "scenerio #1". The benifet to having the MSR and the MCX2 is that they both use the same batteries, no? So extended flight for one is extended flight for both...

Coincidentally I'm currently in talks with a member on these boards regarding an SR120 and DX5e combo to see if we can work something out. This would be to compliment / step up from the MCX2 as opposed to the MSR.

I figure the DX5e would tie me over until I have a real need for a DX6i. If I can get this worked out we'll have to be in talks regarding these air soft guns
