Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

Well, in the interest of getting one build out of the way before tackling another, I decided to fix the cosmetic issue I had with the canopy.
As soon as I brought the plane outside into the sun, a line of bubbles showed up where the wood meets the foam on the canopy. Looked like $#!!%, so had to be fixed. A bit of scraping revealed that the auto filler I used had not cured properly. Obviously didn't mixed right or enough. My 50 to 1 blob must have been a bit inaccurate. Anyway the whole thing had to be sanded down an the seam resealed. I redid the seam with a small strip of 1/2 oz cloth and west system with microlight filler which is what I will be sticking with from now on.
Respraying should be in a day or so.
Otherwise, its flying really well.
I seem to have some left rudder trim in to keep it straight so I am contemplating less right thrust on the motor.
And, the the Edge is here in the basement. Time to get some new build threads going here.

Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

Thanks Jim, theres one there now nib but several years old, just never used.
1100 and change.
Very tempting. Out of warranty but never started.
Not sure if the 150 has changed much in the last few years.
I may just buy one a bit closer to home and support a local resource.

Jason,

Checkout FG for used DA150s. They practicaly give them away there.

I am still kicking myself for selling mine to Dave Hammond. Should have held onto it especiallynow that Bill Hempel is unloaing 150cc Hiperbipes for less then I paid for my 100cc version.

Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

Ah decisions, decisions.
I figure I can get right up to mount the cowl before I need to commmit one way or the other. I look forward to seeing Andys ZDZ at Huckfest.
And I understand Thunderbolt is going to be offer DAs so I can get one locally there.

Agreed Bill!! The 90's and 180's were in such high demand that parts were nearly impossible to get (getting better now). I waited nearly 5 months for the crankshaft of the 180 that I buried in the feild .

I thought parts for the rest were all pretty much in stock at either AMR or TBM, but may be wrong!

I know 160 parts are very readily available, since it was such a popular motor. Still find it a bummer that the 160 is discontinued

Cheers

Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

The ZDZ is vey tempting, notwithstanding the parts issue.
It may come down to budget, The DAs are vey popular and come up fairly often used. I will probably start the build and delay the engine choice as long as possible.
