I just got my ratcheting crimpers from Thunderbolt a few weeks ago. I had some plain ones before and they worked decent but a light went off one day, I have about a dozen pairs of ratcheting crimpers for other types of connectors, why don't I have them for servo connectors,...DUH!!!..., worth every penny!!!!

Re: Building extensions

Soldering light gauge wire to save weight on foamies and gliders is a different story...
But you are not worried about that are you

I would go with making your extensions with new connectors and crimp. Solder joints can be subject to breaking from vibration where the wicked in solder ends within the wire. If you flex the wires around very much near the solder joints during install it can break strands and weaken the wire at those points too. Corrosion can be a problem if any moisture gets trapped in the heat shrink too.
