We used GTF-404 fabric.

YA.
Thanks for the info, this seems like a great and inexpensive way to drastically improve the flying experience for everyone.

I like it.... I fly electrics and hopefully your run way prevents nose overs on take offs. It has to be a little tricky landing on it though. (at least for me) Thx for the post.

Should be interesting to see long term how the 20% UV difference impacts our product from yours. We did talk about using driveway sealer over the fabric if we saw any premature deterioration. Our material is 1/3 the cost of yours so it will be interesting to compare long term usage and wear. I will make a point of posting updates on this topic over the next few years.

We bought it here because it was only a 45 min. drive to pick it up...

The only prep we did was to set the mower to the lowest setting and scalp the area of the runway. The grass died in about two weeks underneath the fabric. In my opinion don't waste your time and money with any kind of weed killer.

What we did was to cut a slot in the ground around the perimeter with a gas lawn edger, this allowed us to push the fabric into the ground 3", which gave us a clean and secured edge. It was tight as a drum by the time we put the last staple in the ground...all 1000 of them.

I think the opjections are common for all clubs when anything different is propossed. We have had a few prop strikes but a smear of roofing tar fills them and is not noticable. The materail is holding up very well. We also used the 404 materal. The club we visited in Michigan was on its 7th year with the Geotex and still going strong. There have been no issues with wind or mice. Ours is stappled along the edges with 6" staples every foot and 12" staples every 10'.
That's great news! It means that there are no more excuses regarding wear & tear, repair ability or longevity.

Yes there are concerns but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The club execs better get with the programme or they wont be in an exec role for long!

If a club of 100 put in $10 each the cost would be more than covered with lunch and coffee for the work party.. I for one would contribute more since I love warbirds and the retracts are part of the scale beauty. My repair costs in the last 3 years from crappy fields far exceeds the cost of an entire Geotex runway..
