Re: New FAA Reg's

Dave - do you have a friend at the US field(s) that you fly at ? Why not ask them to register for you, your name, their address etc. I know it seems a little crazy but the only Canadians that have registered so far have had to use US colleagues, either flying buddies or family members.

I finally gave up on the FAA giving us access to the site and a friend in Michigan registered for me and sent me a PDF of the registration certificate. So I have a registration number on my planes now. It is the only option right now that I am aware of.

Re: New FAA Reg's

I just had my form returned to me...less the $5.00!

I'll just stay home and fly in Canada.

We were told the wait time for processing was 3 months then they would not mail the form to a Canadian address only a US one. The person we talked to said the form would not be processed if the address listed was out of country as this form was for registering aircraft imported into the US.

Seems like you get a different answer with each person you talk to. I don't think any of them really have a clear idea what we need to do to register in their system.

Let us know if it works out for you.

Re: New FAA Reg's

Haven't heard from a Canadian who has actually managed to register. The few I know that winter down there haven't bothered they just keep flying at the clubs they belong to and no one has asked or bothered them.

I was told that they could not process the manual form if it had a out of country address. In fact the fellow I spoke to would not even mail it out of country. I was told the registration form was for importing only that visiting full size aircraft didn't have to register as they were already registered in they're home country.

Hope by the nice weather all this is straightened out sure a lack of thought and planning for foreign nationals of all countries.

Ya I figured as much forgot to mention I intend to do it while over there from her place. Prepaid CC, her address and IP my name and see how it goes. I suppose you could use any WiFi over there for a US IP address.

Rick Kroeze Yes was stateside last week. Could register and then login to the FAA site but the problem still is it will only accept a US mailing address.

Re: New FAA Reg's

Does anyone know of any Canadian that has successfully registered to fly in the USA? I have written the same queries and got the same answers so it feels like a form letter response.

I tried registering from the US side with a prepaid credit card with no luck.

I tried to find an answer on liability if you registered in someone else’s name and could not get an answer. I don’t want to use another’s name if somehow they are going to be held responsible for my actions.

My next attempt will be with a prepaid credit card using my name and my aunts mailing address in St Clair Shores Michigan.
