Re: Building a Runway Pt2

Well, my health took a bit of a backstep, so it doesn't look like I'll ever get a runway built, so I have decided to sell off all my planes and helis, I'll post an ad in the for sale section with details.

The perfect plane would've been a slipstream beaver but I see amr doesn't list it anymore. Shame they were cheap and a dle 20 hauled it along with extra power to spare. And-rc has the most options for you gh has a couple too

Actually, I am looking to get a 20cc or 30cc DHC-2 Beaver, but I first have to sell all these glow engines I have, to raise the necessary funds, although a 1/4 or 1/3 scale Cub would also be nice.

The weather is staying a bit damp, so I doesn't look like I'll be getting much done on the runway for a while.

Re: Building a Runway Pt2

The beauty of landing on a hill is that if you ever go anywhere else to fly, chances are good that their runway will be flat. You'll look like an expert! My flying site is Marriott of obstacles, highway with a 3 phase power line, a 200 ft tower, couple shelterbelts and a farm site.

I too have to maintain 2 grass runways to fly by myself. Takes a strong will to stay at that grass. But hey, once you own a few planes and enjoy the marvels of flight, it makes the work worthwhile. And, there are a lot worse things you can spend your money on!!!!

Good for you! Now days nobody does much for themselves any more. Years ago I had permission to cut out a strip in a horse pasture, so it took time, first I cut the L shape and then started filling gopher holes and badger holes and leveling by shovel .The next day some of the gopher holes were open and occupied, so I purchased a carton of .22 shells, after a few days I borrowed a packer and did some packing to smooth out the strip even better soon I cut the angle strip and worked it down. All the time picking off gophers. I flew off this strip and soon had about 8 to 12 fliers(nothing over a .60 size) as the field was a little tight. We flew around 10 years or more as an outlaw gang and I did all the up keep. I had mentioned someone else should step in for a year you only mowed twice a year unless we had rain then may be four times, no one did .So I quit and one day I was walking down the street and a fellow flier said I went out to fly and the grass is so tall I could not take off. So I said some one else can do it ,I did it for 10 years and never got thanks from anyone so I am done. The strip died then and there.

There are a few trees that will be coming down.
Eventually I will be flying a .60 Escapade and a 20cc Funtana, but since it has been so long since I have flown anything, I decided to pick up a NexStar to re-aquaint myself with flying first.
