Re: My new GP.40 P-51.........demise......

I fly at Wham when I'm not flying everywhere else on the weekends. This year has seen me at the Warbirds over Gimli spring deployment(2 day event), Rabbit lake float fly(2 day event), Cellar Dweller fun fly, Rainy River (3 day event), Wham fun fly and the Wham BBQ, Presidents Fun fly at WRCC, Portage fun fly, and spent a whole week in Gimli for the Gimli Model Fest.
I'm almost to tired to go out flying at my own field. Still have the warbirds over Gimli on Sept. 23/24 and The Kenora fun fly Sept. 17/18. Have a Social that Sat. night otherwise it would be a 2 day event as well.

MAAC has an event list to keep updated to all the fun fly's. Only requirement is MAAC and a sense of humor.

As long as you have MAAC and by the looks in your video you know how to fly, just show up. We'll take care of the rest!!!! I taught myself how to fly 3 years ago and never received wings, I do okay.

Come find where the Wham boys are pitted, we are usually together, and bring a plane even if YOU think you won't fly.

Because your not near a local club I understand flying on your own, No reason to not buy MAAC and hit the fun fly circuit. I've only being doing this for 3 years and I'm almost 40 , I'm amazed to see guys from Ontario and Portage get together every year and get reacquainted, they met 20 + years ago and have kept the friendship going by meeting at the fun fly's.

I attend some of the fun fly's but just as a spectator.

The GMF air show I attended was great! I am going to try and make it up for the day for the fall deployment and see if I can get my P-51 flying there too. I have my MAAC, just not my wings.

How true, Mike. Even if you don't have the chance to fly at these events, you still have the opportunity to meet great people, see lots of other machines and learn some neat ideas from both .

Glad to see Phoenix has risen from the ashes.

3/4's of my enjoyment in this hobby is flying with other like minded individuals. As long as you have MAAC then hit the fun fly circuit, we have lots of fun at them. Warbirds over Gimli is coming up, Free RV, tent, whatever you have camping, lots of room. Stay for the weekend and you will really see what fun the hobby can provide. I have not flown at my field for 6 weeks, too busy flying every weekend at fun fly's and of course the week at GMF was the high light of my summer.

Don't let your incident stop you from coming out and having fun with the rest of us. There's always room for one more!!!!!

Re: My new GP.40 P-51.........demise......

I did the first maiden at my place, but had no pictures, and it was a success.

The flight it crashed was when I took it to the clubs field I joined. Since I did not yet have my wings with that club, I was more or less obligated to let the club trainer check it out with a flight before I was allowed to fly it there.

Long story short, I no longer fly at that club since the crash. Instead we fly in over the field at my place 30 miles outside city limits.
Yeah, the gravel runway is a challenge some day's, but its do-able.

Glad to see you finally got to see her fly. Tell us again why you had someone else fly it on its first maiden! You seem to have a handle on it on that skinny road, opps mean runway!

Maiden flight is successful!!!!!!

2 videos, (sorry for quality) one of take off and couple of circuits, other one is landing.

Now it is time to do the cowl covering, decals, name, etc...........get her all looking all dolled up once again.
