Re: Tank and clunk

If you dead stick half way down double the length of the fuel line to the carb

If you use a header tank do not use a felt clunk anywhere.

If you use a felt clunk don't use a cheap knock off it will plug your carb screen

Paul issue turns out to be the clunk line folding over into the fuel on the download, apparently that just pinches the fuel flow so don't try anything like that. His repair was a stiffening tube in the clunk line.

10 inches of fuel tube is maybe only .1 ounce, not allot of reserve.

Re: Tank and clunk

Keep in mind, the reason I had a dead stick was from the extra long down line.
May not seem too long in the video, go's to show how fast you lose hight.

Re: Tank and clunk

I have NEVER EVER had a fuel starvation issue at any attitude using Roto-Flo tanks. In my 3D days I did dives, snaps, rolls, flat spins (upright or inverted) and water falls no problem. Well worth the money and eliminates any tank related issues. I continue to use them in my scale projects.

You may want to try a large in line fuel filter such as the Dubro large scale gas filter. This will increase the reservoir capacity of your fuel line.

Re: Tank and clunk

Put two tanks in series, problem solved. Dale Hunter put a pic on here a couple years ago of how he did it. Have seen this system work on his plane(s) and put one together myself if you need a picture...... Mine isn't very fancy, I used what I had laying around (single tanks was too small for the plane I was working on).

How are you going to get fuel from your main tank to feed into the header tank?

I'm thinking of trying a header tank.

Re: Tank and clunk

The setup in the video is using the black fuel line which is flexible, in the past I've used tygon which is not so flexible. Care must be taken so you don't get a dead stick when inverted with tygon.

But as mentioned the tank is long and narrow, preventing the clunk to move forward.
The clunk is the large size.
I found the filter clunks are light and are hard to blow through.

Re: Tank and clunk

That system will help for rolling, but not dives, the clunk is still fixed at the far end of the tank. it will not come forward in a dive, it will still starve as frank and paul have experienced.
