Those are good numbers. I am all done and ready to test fly as soon as the wind drops and the wet weather goes away. This has been one wet cold week in New Brunswick.

My AUW is 9 lbs, engine CRRC 26, 17X8 prop turning 8200+rpm at sea level.
I plan to try some elevator to aileron mixing so it should make for some interesting square corners.

The wings are 15% thick and it tends to want to float along, which can be useful on a dead-stick landing.

The colour scheme should be visible in the air! The underneath is a mix of dark blue stripe and white background.

Got-r-dun!

Found an opportunity to get some flying in and remembered to bring everything with me this time!

My repaired Hitec 5625s came back today and found their way into the tail pronto. I had some HK specials in there before. Feels smoother with the Hitecs too. Once all checked out, I headed for "an undisclosed location" to get some testing in. I had a moment of deja-vu as I started taxi tests. A little breezy for my comfort zone for a maiden but found it all to easy to advance the throttle once everything did what it was supposed to do. Awesome combination! Stable platform and lots of power available. She can jump into the air in less than ten feet! Strong vertical climbs and will putter along nicely. No surprises. A few clicks of trim was all that she needed. Need some work on the amount of throw and exponential in the radio as it is uber sensitive but that is all me. Both plane and motor have more than exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to start really giving it a work out.

One more thing, when you go for the maiden, be sure you bring the entire plane. I drove two hours to Vernon's field to find out I forgot the inter plane struts! DOH!!!

I use Pacer Formula 560 canopy glue. Does what it is supposed to do and I haven't had an issue with any of the planes it has been used on.

Well now that winter has returned to the Maritime's for a few days, it is time to get back to the Ultimate rebuild. Especially since my club only needs about a week of warm weather and we will have access to the flying field.

My Cowl and Canopy arrived the other day from Fiberglass Specialties and I am very happy with the quality of the workmanship. The canopy has a bit of a forward deck as part of its molding so I am going to make a removable section similar to Toms and secure it in position with some small super magnets that I have left over from a cd motor build (indoor flying stuff).

The question I have is what is a good glue to fix the canopy in place? In the past I have used both epoxy and Wilhold RC-56 glue and really have not had a lot of success with either of them. My problem seems to be getting the glue to stick to monokote (neatly!)

Will post some pictures once I get the canopy in place.

Thanks for the pics. They helped my with the installation of my DLE 20.

Good to know, thank-you. We might try a 26 cc trainer out due to operating expenses/extras that glo-power needs.

I never was a fan of the wire set-up myself. I went right with a "bolt it to" design thanks to my club mate, twn.

After that( on the others) I removed the top piece of the cabane, set up the wing and reached up through the holes and marked the top wing. A couple of inch square pieces of 1/4 ply drilled out and put in a 6/32 blind nut. Mark the location on the top wing and cut out and insert with epoxy. Then just poke the two 6/32 soc head bolts through the cabane hole and tighten. Solid as a rock The original setup can wear and will allow the top wing to move fractionally during flight.

Good Idea!
The top wing is almost ready to be recovered and I thought I would take a check for free play in the original set-up. I was quite surprised at the amount of free play present and when I measured it I found the front hole was larger by about .009" and the rear was more oval with the top section being about .020" higher than it should have been.

The way you describe attaching the top wing is typical of how I usually attach the wings of all my planes. I think I will make a saddle of balsa to surround the plywood spacers and that way it can be blended in to the wing surface and top of the cabane, a bit like in this picture.
