Re: DLE 35ra, black plug

I'm not a professed expert, but there's lots of chatter on F/G and similar sites about using lots of oil on our DLE's and other Chinese engines. 30:1 to 35:1 seems popular.
The bearings will take kindly to the extra oil. My DLE30 is 4 years old now with many hundreds of flights on it running 35:1 synthetics.
So I wouldn't worry about it if it runs well. Maybe just change the plug out once in a while.
BTW I find you can clean the plugs up pretty well with a little scraping, and a good blow-out with WD40. (if you really want to...)
You can try leaning in the top end 1/16 at a time and see what happens if you wish...but don't go too far.

Thanks Flypaper, maybe I will try 40 to 1. I wouldn't have a clue were to get a hotter plug. Didn't know they made them.

Should be able to run 40 to1 mix in it. Also a cold plug will do it. Running a lot at half throttle will also do it as the motor doesn't run hot enough. A hotter plug will help here too.

DLE 35ra, black plug

Feel kinda bad posting here, it ain't a big motor anymore!! (hey it's all I got((for now))

But I have a DLE 35ra that runs great, 50 flights on it, it has the bowman ring, A real cm6 plug. A canister. A menz 20x8 prop. Tachs out at 7760~7800, idles at 1600~1700. No black snot blowing out the pipe. Otic2 oil at 32 to 1.

But why is it when I look at the plug it's oil covered black? I know that a good running motor should have a tan colored plug.

So am I still on the rich side? It don't run like it is! Last time I tried to lean it out it sagged. Is it just the way this motor is?

Also wondered that when I changed the ring, the top of the cylinder head almost had a flower pattern scorched into it. Like perfect pedals all the way around. I should have taken a picture. My DLE 30 did not have that. It just had a bit of carbon build up.
