Yes, I remember seeing Don Dow and his friend Winston flying some great looking scale turbines at some of the Ottawa and Kitchener events I attended.

Both made some very nice flight presentations with them. They were some of the first scale turbine helis I had ever seen. They were very impressive. I wonder if they even had any FBL stabilization system on them back then. If not, their flights would be that much more remarkable!

I am sure that my flights with Johns Llama would not have looked so well if it was not for the DJI stabilization system that is on board.

I do know he made a comment saying the hotter air was reducing lift, made it sound like its under powered which would contribute to the flying.
I think you may be correct. Who was flying the turbine at the earlier one? I know Don was flying one and so was Winston.

Back then there was not the FBL control systems we have today. He may not have had one on it.

Do you know if he did?

I think I was a that event also and meant to ask him, but I got so busy helping guys with their set-ups, that I never got around to it.

Makes my flying look good, and that is one of the reasons I'm sticking to 450 size helis.

Re: BIG Turbine powered Llama

That is some of the worst control of a large helicopter I have seen since being nearly knocked out of the sky by a similar example of amateur flying. The heli may be nice but the pilot should stick to micros until he learns to fly before he seriously hurts someone. Take it away from him until he can fly it properly. Sorry, that really makes me cringe.
