Re: Royal B 17

Robert,

Over at rcgroups, use their search function and enter 'royal b 17' (use the exact wording option) and you will find several useful threads/blogs... on the fourth page there is a link to a video of the successful maiden flight of a 12 pound Royal/Marutaka 78"span B-17, using electric motors...... using 2 stroke glow engines likely will save a couple of pounds so you should be fine, although you may want to try to lighten/replace any greatly overbuilt tail /outer wing structures.

I believe that website forum has a long running 'royal/marutaka' thread.

There's also a flight video of the same model on youtube.

You should convert it into a big glider and slope it at Dunvegan !

Royal B 17

Just wondering if anyone built & flew one of these with any success . I was given one as a gift many years ago . It has been half built since . I installed mechanical re-tracks & one servo connected to four engines with golden rod . I do not think that it would have worked very well but now with the new mini servos & electric re-tracks I will more than likely try to complete the model . I have four OS FP .20s for it . Seems very heavy although in the instructions they say that it should fly because of the wing area .

Lots of other building projects to keep me busy but just thinking ahead !!

Robert .
