Thanks for the kind words everyone. It is appreciated. The event certainly had a low point for me. Yet, it will be the highs that will be fondly remembered. The highlights were definitely the unexpected Top Gun award and buddy boxing a United States Rear Admiral
( former Blue Angels lead pilot ) on my Elan. It was cool having the Admiral call ME coach! lol

Here's hoping for great weather at Princeton Jets!

Cheers

Well just got home from Whidbey a couple of hours ago and everything is unloaded and the trailer will go back tomorrow. That trip doesn't seem to get any shorter. Anyways I would like to thank Al and Bob for headmanning another great JOW. Also all there wonderful volunteers that help out too. It was a great banquet at the CPO club and Admiral Neumans talk and question answering was just excellent. It's not everyday you get to listen to a fellow that flew the Number 1 tail on the Blues or got shot down during Vietnam and got fished out of the ocean.
As far as the award winners from Canada, way to go Paul and Dean, as always nobody deserves that Top Gun award more than you did. I didn't get to say goodbye to you yesterday Dean, but thanks for your help spotting on the weekend and hope to see you next spring at Princeton.

comment removed, I'm not going to speculate on this. I know Dean will be looking into what happened very carefully.

Noticed that too Kelly, Deans an awesome guy and an awesome pilot, at least it was just material things that can be fixed and replaced. Good for him getting the top gun award!

Interesting photos John, I see some details that haven't been mentioned yet, but I'm not going to comment out of respect for the process and Dean's need to diagnose it privately. The diagnoses as of last night was based on the remains of the aircraft, without photos.

I will say that he is one heck of a good pilot, as shown in the 2nd photo of post 16. Without knowing the models' control throws I think I see left aileron input (with washout on right) and full rudder deflection left as well. That's remarkable experience and reaction time given that it left the ground only a fraction of a second earlier, further justifying the JPO Top Gun award he received at the banquet later that night.
