Re: B.C ruling on use of RC planes

It's been a few winters since we had a -40 streach, just the odd overnight dip and mostly in the -30's.

As Eye Can Fly said the wind is by far the worst to bear in the winter!

We spent several winter holidays on Vancouver Island and at -6 it's the coldest form of cold I have ever experianced! It just penetrated to the marrow of my bones and I just could not get warm! Not even in the house!

Back to the subject at hand - we are very fortunate to have loads of wonderful wide open spaces to fly in and very little by way of laws, rules and grumpy neibours but... the down side is you are mostly on your own. It seems very hard to interest people in the hobby!

U guys in the Okanagan may be without and I'm sure will find a new field but it's the price u pay for living in God's country. I know, you probably take it for granted but us west coasters can only dream.... Too bad there's no industry there anymore to support employment.

Paul, you're picking on us 'flatlanders" again.....and you forgot to mention no provincial sales tax and virtually zero unemployment.....our winters aren't that brutal anymore as far as the cold goes....except that it seems to go on forever...lol

yeah it is hazardous here, for sure, with the trees and the ocean. But the view from the (model FPV) plane can be delicious. Hey fly over water like I did in this photo - no land and municipality issues!

Yup Merv hit the nail squarely. I don't mind the Hot, don't mind the Cold, but that wind will drive ya nuts.

While I don' know how long the land had been cleared where the club was in BC, it seems a bit funny that the adjacent area was developed as residential. My guess would be the new homeowners there wanted to see more than a few feet without looking at a tree!

That brings up another issue, when they do find a place where they could fly without offending someone's sense of hearing, there will be a lot of work to turn it in to a flying field. Dealing with tree huggers, politicians and all the bureaucrats, would test even the most passionate RC enthusiast. IMO

Re: B.C ruling on use of RC planes

locating the plane is not the issue, as us FPVers have recording of the gps coords, and can use directional antenna to find it also. the 150 foot forest canopy is the issue.

those cGSM trackers use cell phone waves. If a plane goes down even at my house in Victoria, there is pretty much no cell service. Get behind any hill or 10 miles out of town - no cell service at all. And the SPOT units will also not get satellite signal if under any amount of foliage and trees too.

GPS tracker:
http://www.pocketfinder.com/gps-loca...l-gps-locator/

Been using these in our FPV planes since this summer. 10x better than the ones we originally had. 18 bucks a month but great peace of mind.
Bullet proof.
Crash proof.
