Hey gordon. I kind of like the APM. THe Multiwii looks like a nightmare. I can get the APM 2.8. Im told its the new version. I might just get the APM 2.6 Mega w/gps. I dont know Im undecided and inexperienced. I like your choice of radio. I love the touch screen and telemetry. I think Ill invest the money I saved on the flight controller and grab that radio. It will bring me over the 600 mark but i think Im ok with that. Im really looking forward to putting this together and getting it flying.

Your radio is a good starter radio , but you might want to consider this radio made by the same people

Then you could have telemetry on it and 10 channels for about the same amount of money .

Re: Help with Quad Build

I just wanted to thank you two for the input. This is the way im going

F550 Flamewheel
Dji 2212 920 kv motors
DYS Simonk 30A Speed Controllers
1045 props
2x Multistar high capacity 3s 5200 mah lipo batteries
IMAX B6-AC Charger/Discharger 1-6 Cells (GENUINE)
Flysky FS-TH9X-B Radio and receiver.
APM 2.6 flight controller w/gps. (Theres a 2.8 version out. I may purchase that)

My total cost is $568.46 Canadian. Thats for everything i need to fly except a spare motor and esc. I did everything humanly possible to avoid shipping costs and I did great except for the batteries. Had to pay the shipping on that. If anyone actually reads this can you let me know if the radio ive chosen sounds OK.

Also does anyone know the difference between the 2 versions of this controller. Its all I have left to order and I dont know which one is best.

APM 2.6 ArduPilot UAV Flight Controller + 6M GPS w/ Compass+Power Module

or

APM V2.8.0 ArduPilot UAV Flight Controller with UBLOX Neo-7M GPS Module & Holder

Thanks for your help again and Have a merry christmas

Re: Help with Quad Build

Thank you Max and Gordon for your input and advice. I really appreciate it. This is where I think im going. I love to mess with circuits and micro-controllers. Its fun and you gain a lot by learning the ins and outs of the system ill be using to fly the Hex. But im new to this and what I want most is the gps functionality and reliability. However Im on a budget and that's why I wanted the naza lite controller @ $69.00 usd ($79.92 cdn). My budget just cant take the hit for the extra 100 bucks for the gps module yet. Total cost of my Hex right now is at $435.81. That includes everything need to build and fly my Hex with 1 spare esc, motor and 2 complete sets of blades as extras. Ill be following the video listed below but ill be using different motors and maybe esc's.

Thats the one that comes without the gps module. I can get the gps later on Banggood.com for $118 so spending $69 on a solid control module for my hex that I can upgrade later is tempting. Got to decide by Friday because thats when I order everything
Look around and see if you can buy the Naza Lite WITH gps as a one-shot deal. Ive seen the lite + GPS for about 157 and free shipping.

Having tried all of the above and then some, I can tell you that you get what you pay for. You can go cheap, and fly basic, but there is a lot of frustration in making the basic stuff work LIKE a naza once you start wanting to get into GPS position hold, altitude hold and return home/ autoland. The cheap stuff just makes you want to pull your hair out. And after few crashes because of incompatible hardware and adding up the cost of repairs, you will be telling yourself that it would have been cheaper to get the Naza from the beginning.
