Most likely will go with free-flight although I do have a miniature flight pack so could opt to make it simple rudder only set-up. There is just something exciting about watching a plane climb up and away while you wait for that little tank of fuel to burn off. Keeps you in good physical condition as well, lol. |

This was my first RC airplane, I originally flew her single channel on an escapement system I bought used at a swap meet (can't remember the brand), she actually lasted long enough to be upgraded to my first proportional radio, an MRC 5 channel! that consumed my entire earnings from one summers work. The original wing wasn't up to the addiitonal weight of a 2 channel proportional radio so a sailplane wing (undercambered) with some addition span (again can't remember details) was outfitted resulting in many fine flights from my Uncle's field. Gear was ineffective because it was basically a fallow hayfield so they were left off to save weight. The build was very straightforward with the fuse consisting of notched formers in a slab side design, a little heavy but sturdy. Nice design, very stable. Enjoy and thanks for the memories! |

Re: Just ordered a new airplane kit One of my first RC planes was a Sterling Mighty Mambo which I built in the late 60s. Wing span I think was about 6 feet. |

Just ordered a new airplane kit Just ordered a Minnie Mambo kit from Early RC. They are releasing a fresh supply. This kit was originally a Sterling design from the 60's. This will be the first build for my grandson, sure looking forward to it, too. Google their name and you will find lots of other good designs from the past on their site. |
