Andrew,

I just gave an Ace RC Digipulse to Cecil Marshal. He needed the power supply ONLY! The charger itself has some sort of intermitentant problem with the programming button. He does not need the charger unit itself as he has one already that works.

Tell him I said to contact him and he will probably give you the charger unit. Perhaps you can use parts from it to fix yours or you may be able to replace the programing button from your old one to get the one I gave him, working.

After hearing about your experience I'm glad my Schultze Chamelion chargers are powered off of a battery. I think I will get a surge protector for the one that is powered off the line.

Did you have a surge protector on your PC ?

I did not have a surge protector on my PC...

I never thought to use some sort of surge protected power bar to protect my chargers... now I will purchase one for the workshop where I plug all my chargers in.

It is likely a spike can get through the transformer DC supply - buy an extension with surge protection is all I can suggest but there is a lesson for all of us to learn here, isn't there?! Sorry it's at your expense, Andrew.
I wonder how my newly acquired 12V 5Amp switching supplies will hold up!
Been toying with the UPS idea here too Moo, we don't have as many blips here as we once did but they still happen.
My wife's home business is dependent on her computer!

They insisted that I was home, wait, my meters are inside.
Oddly they did two trips for two meters, that's organization for ya!

I've had a small UPS on my desktop PC since three days after moving in. Even though we're two km from where Lakeview Generating Station was, every morning, and I mean EVERY morning, the power would drop out for a fraction of a second around 8 a.m. Go figure.
It might have something to do with the streetcars, it might have to do with the Chrysler (formerly Daimler) castings plant 1 km west of here.

Sorry to hear about the digipulse, they were great machines,
I wonder if I have a corpse in my basement...

Well, the charger has a brick sized power supply (I am assuming its a transformer and rectifier - as it plugs into AC 120V and the output is DC at 14 or so volts... and then that plugs into the actual charger.

The power supply still works, so I assume the electronics in the charger itself is damaged.

Have you thought of perhaps putting a claim through OPG or Hydro for the cost of the charger? If it was their equipment, they might pay for the replacement. Just a thought, although I wouldn't set my heart on it

power interuption fried my Ace Super Digipulse!

An underground transformer blew near our home a few days ago... and the power went on and off a few times.

I had my Ace SuperDigipulse charger plugged in, and charging three packs (its a non-peak charger, powered by a large transformer/power supply and has 6 outputs from 10 mA to 150 mA)

Usually when the power goes out, it just defaults to trickle charge at the lowest current setting.

But the led was flashing weird and it appears to be dead (power supply is good, charger microprocessor is not).

Its an old charger, but worked well and saw lots of use. I thought having a transformer/power supply between the 120V AC and the actual charger, a spike wouldnt hurt the electronics in the charger... guess not!
