Re: Hobby King Orange Receivers

Hello All,

I just considering putting in a Orange receiver into a glow plane. I have the dual antennae Orange and the Orange with stabilizer. My concern is range in a 90 fourstroke plane. Anyone have experience with these receivers in glow planes? I have the orange Tx to use with it.

I'm using a Spektrum transmitter so why use some other manufacturers reciever.

I agree.

Funny how many of my radio problems went away when I learned to fly better!

Don't forget when I'm running a foamy that weights under 200 grams I don't have much choice with a 72mhz receiver. I need something that's as light as possible. That's why I started with a GWS single conversion receiver. I now know I can by much better with the same weight. Cheers Floyd
The competition radio now has a 2.4 micro 4 channel at 2.9 grams with case and fail safe on all 4 channels for those that want it for under $10 usd . Why would one want to buy copies at that price ?

David , you are right about correct installs as I have seen some terrible ones and usually from those that
are newer and have never been helped. those that don't read instructions. And then there are still those that go by the book and have issues...... Then there are the " bad luck ones ".

Likely more to do with you doing well made installs that are powered correctly, range checked properly, etc.

Many of us have had trouble free use of DSM2 and DSMX when used properly.
Not really a fair comparison between a single and dual conversion. For sure the dual conversion will supress interference twice as good as single. Now if someone not in the know had read that comparison and not had knowledge between a single and a dual conversion receiver ;he would then take it the one brand is superior to the other.

You are assuming in-flight failures. Ya. That would be bad.
But I will set the record straight from my personal experience and clarify the "failures" i have experienced
 1. One failed a range check (Spektrum) In fairness it was a 3 year old RX and has been in many planes and was long in the tooth.
 2. One would not bind when I swapped planes and would not ever go into bind mode ever again (Orange)
 3. Two kept losing the bind and I would have to continually rebind the RX's (Both Spektrum AR7000's) - I finally got fed-up and swapped it for an orange RX and never had a problem since.

In summary, all were caught on the ground. I would dare say I never had one fail and cause a crash in flight.

I hope this clarifies the failures and the "risk" as you put it.

Re: Hobby King Orange Receivers

Sorry to hear that you had issues. There are choices out there that will never let you down but that would involve a brand change . Nice thing is you don't have to worry about knockoffs or copies because the Chinese can't break or haven't broken their code and made copies. Gives that person a warm fuzzy feeling and the only thing to go wrong are dumb thumbs.
Might mention that the "other brand" is probably less expensive that what you are currently using. PM me if you are interested.

Re: Hobby King Orange Receivers

I have an Orange rx, 6ch (no sat). I probably have 50 flights on it in a Flyzone Beaver, not sure I would use it in a glow model (yes it's worth the extra $40-50 for a Spektrum Rx). I have also been "stuck" with 2 knock off SpeKtrum Rx from sales here on RCCanada (they were advertised as Spectrum RX). Lost 1 plane flying with the knock off (Was a loss of signal on approach) - Will not try that again!

The sad thing is I have experienced the same with a genuine Spektrum RX...
