Re: Best way to ship large models

I sent a turbine jet from here to NB a couple years ago with these guys:
http://www.globalpacknship.com/

Greyhound wouldn't take the crate period down east, Fedex and/or UPS were both well over $1000, these guys were about $400. The buyer had to pick the box up from I believe an airport out there and I had to drive it to their drop off center, but for the money it was cheap cheap cheap for the size of crate. The crate held the jet, turbine, scuba tank, I think some oil, it was almost 100lbs (which is why greyhound wouldn't take it even though it was within their size restrictions, out west greyhound's weight limit is 100lbs but from Ontario east it's only 75lbs for some reason, guess we're tougher out west ) haha.
I'd give a call and find out if there's a drop off center near you.

Post office has gone cubic now as well. Still, I moved 80lbs of magazines into the US for just over $110, Purolator wanted $275...

Yeah I know what you mean the box weighs more than double the heli. Insurance is another thing 3% of the value.

I had a 700 size heli fuse with same issue. Large box at around 8lbs. A online quote was $180. Actual cost when it got here was $22.95 LOL. Build a good box as well. Mine got throw around pretty hard.

Yeah I will have to go in cause I got a quote over the phone and online, the price was the same. And for that size of crate the alowed weight was over 200lbs! Mine is less than 40lbs.

I second that you won't do better than the bus.I have used Manitoulin trucking but that is only when things wont fit on a bus.

Greyhound is cheapest. Dont trust the online calculator. Go in and get a quote. They have started using cubed weight and that did put the costs up.

Best way to ship large models

What is the best and cheapest way to ship larger models? I have a crate that is 70"x20"x20" and weighs aprox. 35 lbs. Greyhound is very expensive.
