Well our 'kid' got a Vapor and it is perfect for him in our smaller gyms! Should help greatly with his skills for next summer!

The vapor is very easy to fly, in little to no wind you can fly it outside, had 3 10 minute flights on mine tonight.

Aside from the above suggestions, the Nutball design (search google and you'll find the VERY simple free plans) is about the most versatile, durable, easy to fly plane around. With the very low wing loading (assuming you build light) you can walk the NB around.

Ember is pretty fast though.

For beginner I would stick with a Vapour. It gives you enough time to react before you hit the wall

Re: Indoor Trainer

the micro stick from erc is just like the ember but stronger motor. you can fly it nice and slow or it has enough jam for loops .

Re: Indoor Trainer

Eflite vapor for the rank beginner or an ember for the slightly more experienced beginner...

Indoor Trainer

We have a single basketball court sized high school gym, decent high ceilings.

Whats a good trainer type indoor electric plane for a beginner?

Been trying some out of dollar store foam but they are a bit heavy to fly nice and slow in the gym, not to mention not very durable for the constant wall banging!

Prefer BNF for spketrum tx, or RxR for Anylink, if an ARF/foamy.
