Re: Ultimate Glue Testing Thread

Hey Kevin!

Andy and I stopped in to a wood-working shop in Mississauga yesterday who offers the full line of Titebond wood-glue products.

We stumbled on this glue and it seems very similar to the German Aerobond Express... it's a very thick, pinkish-white glue that dries crystal clear and tacks up very fast - about 10 minutes and some of my test-samples were bonded very well!!!

For me, the biggest item is sandability, so I'll be testing that soon - it seems like a close alternative to Aerobond and is locally available for a better price

Cheers

Trev

Re: Ultimate Glue Testing Thread

Thanks for the info paul.

I picked up some weldbond and will test this weekend. I tried a few impromto pieces and is shows promising. Very similar to aerobond express but not quite as quick to dry. When dried it was similar is strength and hardness.

Re: Ultimate Glue Testing Thread

as I understand it the chair doctor glue is not really a glue in the way we think of it. It is designed to fix loose chair rungs. I took this off the Lee Valley website "Chair Doctor™ glue does exactly what the name implies; it fixes chairs. If a chair has a loose rung, an injection of Chair Doctor glue will first swell the rung and then bond it in position. "

You may want to try their GF 202 glue in your next round of tests.

I also would like to thank Michel @ AMR RC for providing the wood for the test, Chris from Ontario Adhesives as well as Dr. Gotz from Team Aeroscale for providing the glue for these tests. I was impressed how they stepped up to prove how there glue works. So Far both are excellent performers.

Re: Ultimate Glue Testing Thread

I will be testing weldbond soon. I will be getting some this weekend.

I was surprised with a few glues actually. I learned a lot. Like how medium seems to be a better joint in balsa than thin. I also was very impressed with Aerobond express, Trev has been raging about it. It seems to be another good glue. I was surprised how poor the chair doctor glue performed. I was told by a buddy that this was amazing glue and soaked very well. Guess not...

Next tests will be weight comparisons, sandibility plus appearance, and hopefully some numerical load tests.

I hope all will find these test useful. Again I tried my best to keep all scenarios identical to give everyone and equal chance.

I'm about ready to start my scale fuselage builds and this is a great test. Like to see how weld bond also performs but superphatic definitely seems like a great glue.

Kevin,
It would be good if you create a spread sheet with your findings.
Would make it easy for a person to cross reference all the provided info
