Re: Snaps defined

Hi Brent,
yes, it's an issue on some airplanes. There might not be the same travel on your rudder from right to left. Also check for servo blowback on your surfaces- shows up at higher speeds.
My Carden snaps faster left positive than it does right negative, so I have to make slight travel adjustments to balance the roll rates.

Re: Snaps defined

Could someone please clarify what I just observed. One of my planes positive snaps fine rolling right, and a bit better left. However, a negative snap is just plain ugly rolling right, and clean rolling left. Is this common?

I don't think I was sloppy on the sticks. Plane was trimmed.

Lol, yeah, just can't do it. I have to feel comfortable with the sequence, which means stick time. I'll try. We have to get Rees out for practice before the Worlds, so I'll work with him to get both of us practiced!

When I screw up at a contest, I call it "entertainment". I usually do at least one "pucker" landing per event. You should have seen the one I did last weekend . It definitely got everyone's attention.

Come on out and play.

Lol! Thanks, Rick! If I get a chance to actually practice the Intermediate sequence a bit, I'll try and make it to one contest, but I don't like flying in contests unless I've put in the stick time to at least avoid embarrassing myself, hehe!

Tyler you have it exactly correct, except for the not flying this season part.

Re: Snaps defined

So, if I read this correctly, there's no judging criteria for a snap except whether there's pitch deviation, auto-rotation, and stopping the auto-rotation at the correct point depending on whether it is to be a half, three-quarter, full snap, etc. Also, that the snap is correctly positive or negative, depending on what the Aresti calls for.

Interesting...I've always felt that a snap is a snap, and this pretty much confirms it. Whether or not it is a tight snap or a bigger snap, as long as there's a stall initiating the auto-rotation, the degree of pitch, doesn't matter as long as it ends where it should.

I also found it interesting that there's room for pitch and yaw correction and your snap is not downgradeable if you do the corrections immediately on exit of the snap. I always left my plane on the line it exited it on because I didn't think you were allowed to correct, but the opposite is true. You want to maintain the line, so you MUST correct after a snap to do that.

I won't likely be flying IMAC this year, but this is a really good article and good for judges and pilots, alike.

Don,
I don't have anything to fly at the moment. All of our stuff is going into storage until we find a house, once that happens I'll set up shop and start something new. So, anything I get in this season will be due to the generosity of others. I do hope / plan to be in Muncie in Sept.
