Re: Radio Help Required...

Mike is bang on with mixing an unused channel with elevator and using whatever to operate the channel. Exactly what you asked for. Adjust the channel and elevator changes. Then on the ground when you adjust you see the elevator change and program the flap_elev accordingly.

Re: Radio Help Required...

I took a quick look at your instruction manual and it can't be done with your radio. If you want the elevator to move at only a certain point of flap travel then set point 1 at 0% and point 2 the same and then starting adding at mix in at whatever point you want. Now saying that there is way you can do it by linking 2 mixes together. I have never done it but I believe this how you would do it. Create your flap to elevator mix and set it up. Now create a 2nd mix and assign the LD as the control. You will have to assign the LD to a unused channel and mix into another unused channel. You probably aren't using channel 7 and 8. Now go back to the Flap/elev and link it to your 2 mix. Here is the part that gets real goofy is how much mix to apply to the 2nd mix to control the flap/elev mix. Lots of expermentation ahead if you try.

I have tried to do what you are trying to do with my futaba 14mz and it worked. But it was really hard to get the adjustment right in the air. Every time I changed the throttle setting I would have readjust the mix rate. I found it was hard keeping up to it. In stead I just put in down elevator mix triggered at 50 % flap and adjusted with the elevator as I changed throttle settings. Good luck

Re: Radio Help Required...

That's almost what I'm trying to do Mike, but i want the mix adjustable, and i want it to go away when I pull the flaps up.

But can't find variable mix with the - I can have liner mix, with the rate selected in the Prog. mix menu. Or i can have 5-point curve mix, again with the rate selected in the menu. I'm trying to get the rate of mix variable on LD, THEN have the mix go away when i lift the flaps....

Re: Radio Help Required...

Think of it a different way. Use the the LD to adjust the amount of mix. What that does is adjusts the amount of elevator that is mixed. I believe it is called variable mix in the futaba menu

Re: Radio Help Required...

Flap-Elevator mix on a 3 way switch is definitely the way to go.

Once you get the elevator trim adjusted in flap position 1 and 2, (position 0 = flaps off =no extra trim needed), you should not be able to notice any pitch change when you lower the flaps.

Re: Radio Help Required...

I don't think you can set up Futaba with the Elev trim separately when using the Flap-Elev mix like you stated. Use a programmable mix, the Master (flaps/CH6) with the slave (elevator/CH2) I tried the slider but you never really get a sense of how much flap you are using consistently. I went to the 3 position switch one for take off, one for landing and the other for no flaps. Adjust the percentage of elevator required for each switch position. I usually start at 8% for landing and 4% for take off and go from there. Also remember that the aircraft speed also determines how much pitch up or down the flaps will cause. I always set my throttle for 1/4 on a flap approach. The big mistake people make is they try to land their model at idle with flaps. This idle approach makes the model mushy and hard to control, or not very positive as I would like to say. Find a throttle setting that you like and adjust the pitch from there. This obviously will change depending on models. I hope this helps.

Re: Radio Help Required...

Can you program different "flight modes"? If so you could set each mode with a different amount of mixing. Doesn't allow for the level of fine tuning you'd like, but better than only one setting per flight

Re: Radio Help Required...

That's what I'm saying Kevin, but am hoping there is a setup with a variable trim that only worked when the flap was deployed, and turned off when the flap was up. That way the trial and error was less error, more trial

Re: Radio Help Required...

Sounds like what you want is really just to mix a bit of up elevator in with the flaps. How much is trial & error.

Can't help with the specifics as I'm a Spektrum user.
