Re: My Summit and Stampede

The Traxxas Slash 4X4 arrived today! I spent a couple of hours looking it over and reading the manual. It is a 1/10 scale but I was very surprised at the size of this truck. Makes my rock crawler look small. It seems to be a very nice truck and looks to be quite sturdy and of good quality.

I put the Ni-MH 8.4v 4500mAh packs on a slow overnight charge to give them a good soaking/forming charge for the very first charge. This will assure that the packs will be at peak performance when I put them on the fast charger after this first forming charge also helping to assure a long pack life.

So tomorrow I will give it a go at the school yard just around the corner. Lots of space to really let her loose. Should be great fun and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll post a couple of pics in the morning.

Each to their own. The main thing is, as long as you are having fun

Re: My Summit and Stampede

Well, as I said in my previous thread, I have decided to go a different route. It seemed rather redundant to have another crawler so I opted to purchase a different vehicle. I've ordered the Slash 4X4 brushless setup with 2.4 GHz radio system so that I can have the option of doing some off road racing if I'd like to do so. A friend told me of a new indoor track where they are racing Stadium Trucks also so that too will be a plus especially in the winter months.

At the Toledo show just past, I purchased a 3S 8000mAh Lipo for it so it should really haul on the track. I really liked the Summit but this way, I think will be better for me personally.

Again, thanks for all the help fellows. Perhaps I'll get to meet some of you at an event this summer.

Re: My Summit and Stampede

That is a beautiful looking truck my friend. I think that body looks way cool!

Went out to the field today with the Axial Crawler to give it a try on some real rocks and tundra. It was really great fun. Hard to believe these things can climb some of the stuff I tried with it. Well anyway, I was impressed with it. At times I thought it was going to flip over backwards but it just grabbed on and up it went. I love it!

I played around with it for almost 15 minutes and still had power in the 3300 Ni-MH pack. It should have great long runs with the 2 5000 mAh Ni-MH packs I bought for it. Can't wait till some warmer weather when I build a rock pile in my back yard for the Axial and the Summit to have a go at it with.

I know it's probably the same as everyone elses but I'll still post a pic of the Summit here when I get it. Thanks again my friends for all your help!

Re: My Summit and Stampede

Might get a Raptor body for my Summit, they look pretty good. It's made for the Revo, so I'd have to get the rear body posts from a Revo.

Re: My Summit and Stampede

As of now, the Summit is the only RC vehicle that I have owned. I have been drooling over the brushlees E-revo as a dedicated basher, but I am having trouble hitting the purchase button. It's a lot of money to shell out for a "toy car".

Re: My Summit and Stampede

The Summit looks pretty darn nice in any colour! I do like the red though which should be easier for these old eyes to follow!

I've never tried doing my own paint scheme so thought it might be fun to purchase a clear body and do my own thing with it, just for something a little different.

Do you have any other RC vehicles? The Summit will be my second Truck. I purchased an Ax10 Scorpion rock crawler a couple of months back but have only run it a short time in the living room. Now that I have a Summit coming, the Axial might already be obsolete. Maybe I'll trade it in on a Buggy or Truggy or just keep it for dedicated rock crawling. Not sure what I should do with it at this point. It is a pretty nice vehicle and also came RTR.

Re: My Summit and Stampede

I don't mind the thread jack at all. Pictures defiantly don't do the Summit justice. They come in Red, White, Blue, or Yellow. Some websites have the option to pick the color, but just i got mine at a hobby shop. Came out to $670, I payed $400, the rest was my Christmas present. I wanted a white one but they only had blue so i got it. If you buy a white body and send me your wheels, ill send you my beat up body and wheels. haha
Yellow one and white one:

Yes and I too will apologize once again! If it's any consolation, because of this thread and the posted pics of the Summits, it helped me tremendously to make the decision to purchase my own Summit. Thank you for this thread and the encouragement, much appreciated.

By the way shwack10, how did you get a blue body for your Summit? The one I ordered comes in Red. Or did you buy a plain body and paint if yourself. I see they are listed for about $27. I'd really like to buy another clear body and paint & detail it myself. Got a new Airbrush over a year ago and haven't use it yet so would be a good opportunity to give this a try!

Thanks again for allowing us the discussion in your thread and for helping me decide on the Summit.

The way this truck performs, brushed is just fine with me. Perhaps later on, It could be a consideration to upgrade to brushless but for now, I'm just happy that I'm going to have this awesome truck.

Quote Thuebner " Then chains add a lot of weight to the tires. They aren't really suited to full out bashing. I was mostly running my Summit in low gear and saved second gear and my batteries for when I needed some wheel speed to climb up the snow piles. They bit into the hard packed snow really well, but were only marginal in the powder. I think that next winter I will be running paddles. "

I have seen aluminum chain used for decorative purposes and such that could be used to make a set of chains for the Summit. Do you think a set of lighter aluminum chains would be able to perform better? Just a thought!

What is a set of good paddle tires worth $$?
In powder snow the chains simply aren't tall enough to offer up much added traction. They do help, but the weight penalty wasn't worth it. Now, on hard compacted snow they worked great.
I just found them to be too much of a drain while running in high gear. Low gear, no problem. If you can find alum. chain then all the better.
I'm still researching paddles and wheels but havn't come up with a decision yet.
I think you will be very happy with your Summit. I have absolutley no regrets with mine.
We sorta hijacked Shwack's thread. Sorry about that.
