Re: Hoaye F-18 build I know how you feel John! Our field has been awesome this year, and I've had zero issues with retracts and smaller wheels (even managed to take off with my HK Vampire, which has tiny wheels!), so I'm moving towards everything having retracts in them now. |

Re: Hoaye F-18 build Now that I removed the retracts from the Mig-25, I think they might find a home in the Hornet. Oh boy, more work ....... But I am getting tired of dragging out the bungee .... 😎 |

Re: Hoaye F-18 build Redid the fans so I could use a higher cell count and get more power. These Mega motors were designed when 5 and 7 bladed impellers were the norm. This I found out the hard way with my Habu using the Change Sun fan with this motor. So took out Change Sun fans that have a high blade count and installed an older Air Power AP-700 EDF unit. After checking Mega Motor's website, found the motor can handle a 6 cell battery pack. unfortunately, only 50 Amp for sustained max power. So, crossed my fingers, attached a brand new 6 cell 5000 mah Turnigy battery and fired it up. Well, it produces 1100 watts of power at 52 amps at full power. But that's just one fan, I'm sure when I get the second one installed and it shares the same battery, the power will be somewhat lower. |

Re: Hoaye F-18 build So, with all batteries installed and using the receiver battery to final balance the model, it tip the scales at 6 lbs 13 oz's, just under my target weight of 7 lbs, so I'm quite happy about that. |

Re: Hoaye F-18 build It would Tom, but I'm up in the Huntsville area at a cottage for the weekend. I want to get more stick time on the Habu before trying the maiden. I'm kinda rusty. |

Re: Hoaye F-18 build With that wide fuse, it will be a bungee launched model. The hook is already in the model. The wieght, well it was just over 6 lbs before the colour was applied and I sprayed it fairly lightly so hoping for an all up wieght to be well under my target of 7 lbs. but I have to mount a couple of small plywood plates inside so I can attach Velcro to hold the reciever and the final location for the reciever battery. I'll wiegh it after that. |

Re: Hoaye F-18 build John Nice job on the finish. From the photos you would not think that it is a foam model. Looking forward to your flight report with your EDF setup. Is your intent to bungee launch or hand launch? What did the final all up weight ready to fly come out at? Good luck on the maiden flight. Marty |
