Re: Transporting Wings

Check the pic of my 1/4 Tigermoth @ Kitchener.

The grey box behind is a carboard box wrapped in duct tape with hotwired foam guides in each end to keep the wings separate (i.e. interplane mounts, pushrods etc. don't impact each other).

Works well for me, inexpensive, protects against most 'bumps' and is water resistant.

ymmv.

Re: Transporting Wings

Why not just get a topper for the crewcab?

Re: Transporting Wings

The Crew cab STAYS! I use it to do my job, and planes are expensive, the gear I generate revenue (to spend on hobbies) out values the planes by about 5:1. My off farm gear is all for working at height, you see, I'm not very well grounded (or at least until the guys see me fly a Holden)!

I can build a top for the electric over hydralic part of the truck box (the rare 8' box) and have a fairly decent shop on wheels.......

A cargo trailer works well. I have, love, & wouldn't be without one. The minivan is just for getting to work, and hauling a bird with me, should I need to stop on the way home to check on my little buddies as the good wife calls them.

Re: Transporting Wings

Trade your Crew Cab PU for a regular cab and fix the box to carry your stuff.

Welllllll! If I need a minivan to be in the RC Club, I'm OUT!

Come on Dale. You've got to show us a pic of how you transport that glider.

Re: Transporting Wings

Minivans have served me well over the years. Now my hobby has grown to where I require one, not much can match them.
My 3meter glider wing is even built as a one piece, ha-ha. I also build my wing bags out of thrift store comforters, sleeping bags etc. They call them Camping, or fireside blankets locally, $1 each.
