Re: Battery Error Now what ?

Well ...!
I had recovered the battery using the NIMH charge method and got a few flights out of it on my Stock Super Cub
Then put it into my (new to me ) PZ T-28 and puffed it !!
apparently a 15C battery is not capable of 1/2 throttle flights with a Turnigy 3542 motor .
Actually i cooked 2 PZ 1300 mah 15C batteries ,my 30 C Eflite 1300mah worked fine .

I now understand C ratings much better

Glad it worked out David, the 1300mah seem to be the worst for this sort of thing.
Batteries need to be looked after even when flying season is over or time does not allow you to get out.

Re: Battery Error Now what ?

Well that worked !!
I charged the battery as a NIMH at 1 amp for 12v for about 30 minutes .
That brought the bad cell up to 3.6 v .
Next step was to balance charge on Lipo and that brought the cells up to 4.2 ,4.2 and 3.7v
Step 2 was to discharge all cells down to3.7 ,then to balance charge up to 4.2 ,4.2 and 3.9v

I repeated this process 2 twice more and now all cells are balancing to 4.2 v.

I will use the battery but only in my HZ Super Cub and see how it goes over the next couple of flights

Thanx everyone for all your input and words of caution

Re: Battery Error Now what ?

I would try what William and Papa suggested....and you it appears you have access to the leads of the 'dead' cell in which can you can just charge that cell and see if it will charge up to the minimum voltage required for lipo settings on our smart charges......
.... and yes you can make it into a two lipo as well; just take care not to puncture the walls of the cells.

good luck

yup, I agree too.

Just happens sometimes, just had it happen to me last week on a pack with only 17 flights.

Re: Battery Error Now what ?

I agree with Al, even if you get it recovered do you want to take the risk of it going bad in flight? Since the pack is only 1 month old, I would return it to the store for warranty replacement. I had this happen once, contacted the store, they replaced it fairly easily.

Re: Battery Error Now what ?

A bad battery is a bad battery is a bad battery. Period.

The trickle charge method to bring the pack (all cells) up to a level where it triggers the charge process works often if you have heavily discharged the pack (all cells).

Having one cell that low in relation to the others indicates a bad cell to me, IF you are able to get it to come up and balance with the other cells it's just going to happen again and again and again.

It's a bad pack IMHO.
